One more piece of advice you should give him when it won't start.

See this can of Starter Fluid, give it a big shot of it, then turn the key on and have your buddy that knows so much give it a really big shot of of it while cranking.

Boy you are sure right "you can't fix stupid" I had (notice HAD) a BIL like that. He would ask for advice then tell you he knows that isn't the correct answer. I remember he called me to plow his drive way with my JD tractor. I told him (he had a V8 Jeep with a 7ft blade in his driveway) he should use the Jeep ,it plows much better that the tractor. "No the jeep won't do it I need the tractor over here" So took the JD over jumped off it got in the Jeep plowed his drive told him "there I got the F$%%^ken jeep here you happy?", and went home. After several incidents I told him not to call me -never spoke to him after that. MY GOOD

I know a couple people who "fix" their own cars, houses, ect... bubble gum and duct tape, if it don't fit bust out the drill! If it don't run it was a POS from the factory...it's the enginers fault! They won't ever change. I always say double check everything twice (that's four times for those of you who are still enjoying the freedom of kindergarden) it's probably right in front of your face!

my friend was trying to get his chevy 350 working properly, he did everything, carb spacer, ignition system (everything, even the distributor) pulled the heads, fought that thing for 2 or 3 weeks, missing work the whole time...spent the better part of a grand.

Turned out to be a miss adjusted carbureator...a little on the lean side!

Someone else is working on their boat, same engine, but it gets hot, had it appart twice and spends $300 a month to keep it in the water, sitting for 2 years unused because he's frustrated, took it half way appart 3 times, but won't open it up and actually look at all the individual components, just conjectures, I got over being frustrated a long time ago.

I have had several "friends" call me up for help on stuff like that. After I get to your point I walk away and when they ask where im going I tell them that as of then I am charging for any more work to the truck, stupid thing is that most of them **** wreck whatever they are working on then tow it to me and payed me to fix it

I'll chime in too. I am sure anyone who does their own mechanical work has been in this situation, you tell them what needs to be done but their buddy knows better. I'll usually just let the appointed expert do their thing and move on.

I'd love to see the conversation between them and the parts guy when he goes in looking for a new throttlebody for his idi.
