Add on Fuel Filters...

Looking to add an extra layer of protection to my 50/50 WMO blend. Gonna ad a heat exchanger too. Found this combo along with a couple others, so what do you think???

Good point about "needing" the filter or heater. I want to add filtration. So if I am going to ad a filter anyway, and since I am not certain this is my permanent fuel mix, is this a good way to go about it. I have looked at the goldenrod filter too, still considering it. but a goldenrod would be harder to heat if I should mix a fuel blend needing it. So, that brings me back to a metal canister type filter body, I think?

the reason i want to move away from the factory filter is more the cost. i cant get these filters for less than about $30 and there are some much bigger more standard ones out there for a better price.

Adding a extra filter on your pickup is not a bad thing. The stock filters are expensive, so putting something "ahead" of it
can be ok.
One could argue that if you "need" a extra filter on board, a person's filtering process "in the garage", needs to be improved.

Do you think the plastic bowl of the goldenrod is too fragile???
A metal filter "bowl" would add some durability.
What I would look at is cost of the replacement cartridge.
How easy are the cartridges to get/purchase. ( I mean do you have to order them or can you pick em up on your way home, etc.)
Heating of the fuel in vehicle can be harder then you think.
I tried running a "hot coolant" around my stock filter, didn't notice any temp rise.(Unless I shut the pickup off)
When I run the fuel line around my upper radiator hose it does climb.
I think the sure fire way to raise fuel temp is a heated filter, big surprise since it's designed to do that.

I think the goldenrod filter is great... But how would I heat it? I know with canister filters I can use an electric wrap heater, or use a filter- heater combo like the one I linked to show. I know I do not want a glow plug type heater since I mix gas in my fuel. Yes, the factory filter is expensive. I would like to pay $15 or less per filter replacement. TSC has goldenrod filter replacements for about $10, if I had a separate heat exchanger could the goldenrod bowl take the heated fuel?

most tractor supply stores should have goldenrods with plastic bowls and regular spin off ones. the regular steel spin off goldenrods should be able to be heated with wrapping just fine. i would be much more worried about the thermal shock breaking down the plastic bowl every heat cycle. it might be fine but i would not count on it.

Wonder if it will attach to a heat exchanger base?

My guess would be that the WIX filter is twice as big as the stock filter...either that or the micron filtering is double.

Either way you look at it though, a WIX filter in front of the stock filter would definitely prolong the stock filter by a significant amount. In my case, I can almost get a full "stock" interval between stock fuel filter changes anyway. By checking Ebay/Craiglist each week and jumping on deals when they're available, my stock fuel filters cost either the same or less than the add-on WIX (or other brand) fuel filters.

Even if I could extend the interval by using an add-on filter, I don't that the "peace of mind" factor would let me.

I was just at TSC and measured the Goldenrod canister filter with base, it was right about 7" tall. The base however has no built in way to attach. I would like to run it under the hood.
I am thinking about extending a bracket from the factory filter head and hang it off the side of the factory setup. If I find a way too attach it this will leave good room to service the filter.

TSC also sells a filter w/ fitler head, it's usually by the Goldenrod's and if not there, then right above where they have all the pumps, hoses, and nozzles.
