A/C experts needed.

I need to install my new a/c compressor tomorrow morning and have to add the pag oil to it. My truck was already converted to 134 and someone marked the new measurements and the amount of pag oil on the accumulator, kind of a nice touch for future service.
My question is, the instructions on the compressor say to add 4oz of pag oil to the compressor but on my accumulator, someone marked that they used 8oz in my system when the conversion was done.
So what do I do? Just add the 4oz and be done?

Its in prefect shape internally, still full of 134. I broke the compressor last weekend, trying to change the clutch. I have a brand new compressor to put on.
I just spoke with a member on the phone, he said to just add the 4oz that the compressor instructions mentioned and he's going to vacuum and re charge it Sunday.

Better to be over than under on oil. No real thing as too much oil except if you use so much that it affects the cooling potential by displacing refrigerant lol but that is absurd.

Id probably follow the instructions vs something someone else wrote. Also make sure you are following the fresh installation stuff. We usually measured what oil came out of the pumps and replaced it with an addition of 2oz IIRC. But it will differ too for full flush verus swap

What I dont understand, is that when you convert to 134, I thought you were supposed to only run the charge at 80%.
Whoever did the conversion, wrote a new measurement of 3lbs 4oz, which is exactly what the original R12 sticker says under the hood and on the accumulator.
Whatever they did though, it's been the best working and coldest 134 conversion I've ever seen.

An A/C shop can reclaim it for you.

If you're just letting the gas out, I'm done here.

You need 85% of the r12 charge. This is 2.75 lbs of r134a.x2 on having a shop suck it out and refill it. Id go farther and flush everything,new orifice and dryer.start 100% fresh

I understand that. I didnt come in here asking how or what to do with my refrigerant, I asked how much oil I need to add to my compressor.
I dont know why the hell you need to bring all this other crap up. I have a friend thats coming over with a machine this afternoon to reclaim it.
From now on, I would appreciate if people would keep their nose on their own ****** face.

Kenny. Sorry I can't add much to this thread about oils and 134. Its not what I know much about. I do know enough about the R12 and have a license to buy it. I prefer the R12 to the 134 in our ac systems. The R12 systems were built for just that but we can run the 134 in the R12 systems and as you know it works fine. There are plenty of other refrigerants that are a combination of items and no ac shop will evacuate them for you because it will ruin their recovery tanks. What I have seen ac shops do is sample the freon before they remove it. Propane works very well as a freon but its a hazard to use it. Once its in the system no shop will touch the ac system again. Be careful of the Freeze 12 and others like it. Some cal it cow farts because its a methane gas and it harmless.. Will not really but they sell it that way. I also read something a while back about that the 134 turns out to be just as much as a hazard to the air as the R12 was. Its also about to be removed from the patent it has had for years so others can begin to make it. Who knows what it will become.

I think you might be overreacting a little... It's a valid question seeing as even touching that system without being certified under section 609 of the Clean Air Act is Federal crime and can get you a fine of $37,500.

I do not believe you for a second, now that you've told me that you don't have a way to reclaim it. So now I believe you're a willful polluter and a liar.

From now on, I would appreciate it if you didn't try to have air conditioning if you can't afford it. And you can't afford it if you can't afford to have the gases reclaimed instead of letting them escape. People who do that are the reason why we can't have cheap asthma inhalers any more.

So I know there's better ways to do it.
But what if a person used a pump from a fridge/freezer/ax/etc and pumped it into a empty propane tank?

I do not know if the frig pumps can make enough pressure to force the freon into an mt tank. Good thought too. I made my own vacuum pump from a refrig pump and it sucks done to 26 or 26.5 inches of mercury. I leave it running for about an hour. then shut it down and watch for as much as 15 hours. If I loose vacuum I find the leak and fix it. Been **** my own ac work with R12 for 25 years. 134 is much more sensitive to amount in the system.
