'97 PSD Fuel mileage? added a new issue

I've had this truck for almost a month and have checked the mileage three times, 13 mpg ,city, every time. It is an F350 dually, 7.3, E4OD, 4.10 gears. It doesn't have any leaks and the valley is dry. Shouldn't it get better mileage than this?

My 95 F-250 with 3.55's gets 18mpg at best so I think you are about right.

I am looking for a mod or "chip" that will get these things better mileage.

dually knocks 1-2 mpg, 4.10s knock off a little more on the highway, still a little low though try changing all of the filters

I have changed them, even deleted the cat and muffler.

alignment, tire pressure, if all you are doing is city you cant expect anything crazy

I've got 3.55's in my '97 4wd 7.3 and have been getting constantly 14-15 mpg in the city and 16-18 mpg highway. That is with 3-4" straight pipe, Tymar intake, regulated return, electric fuel system, TS chip, and a heavy foot.

Something else came to light today, I reved the engne up in park and the engine bogged down and grayish/ blue smoke poured out of the tailpipe. I tried it several more times and it did it every time, but it runs fine while driving. I did notice that when I kicked it into passing gear it would do almost the same thing (bog down) without the smoke. Any ideas?

how many miles on the injectors? is it stock air filter? what fuel pressure? do you drive some what calm? or like me lead foot? cause mine is the same 13-14 mostly short drives....

the last one will kill you mpg, don't ask how I know.....

If you want better fuel open up the air intake and let her breath....

I don't know, I just bought the truck last month.

I know mine gave me problems when I first bought it, changed the fuel pump not a lick of problems....
