So here is as much background as I know on my friends truck.

He has a 95 Powerstroke with a ZF 5 and it is a 4X4. The truck has 336K on the motor and trans. One morning he went out to start the truck and no wait to start light. He tried to crank the truck but no luck. He has since replaced the PCM in hopes of gaining a wait to start light. Still nothing.

When the truck cranks it does not have any smoke coming out of the exhaust. Could that be any indication that it is an IDM failure?

To be honest I am an IDI guy so I don't know too much about these Powerstroke's just enough to be dangerous.

Let me know if you guys need any additional information.

Thanks for any help!

First place to start is to check the maxi-fuses under the hood, the pcm fuse may be burnt out or getting corrosion at the blades. Had a similar issue with a '96 earlier this winter.

The Maxi Fuse has been replaced for #22 (I believe that is the right number for the PCM/Fuel Bowl heater). Where would be the next place to look?

Ok that makes sense. I will check the schrader valve for fuel pressure and work from there when I get a chance.

Cam position sensor is a known common issue with the 7.3 PSDs. It will fail without notice and cause the truck not to start. $30 sensor, 15min to change.

Pull out the wait to start light assembly thing. Clean up the wire connections and the bulb connections.
Mine was quitting also.
Don't trust the lights.

Does it has a tachometer?
If yes, does it move when you crank the engine?
If no, change the CPS!

I have wiring diagrams for the engine. And testing procedures for the idm.

That would be awesome to have the wiring diagram for the IDM. I will have him clean the bulb assembly also to verify. I will ask if the Tach is working while cranking.

Thank you for your input!

I've linked one from my phone before, but apparently I can't now. I'll get it later from a laptop.
Apparently you can't actually "test" the IDM, but can see if it's putting out voltage.
I'll add that procedure to the pdf though.

Well I tried to do it via my gf's ipad, to no avail also.
I can email them though.
And will try an actual laptop tomorrow evening.

If you want it emailed, pm me your email address.
