93 IDI VS 97 PSD .........HELP ME make up my mind

HEy guys is 7k too much for a 99 PSD crew srw 4x4 with 206k miles and a daily driver and towed a camper every now and then? Clean small dent, guy was asking 8900 now he is asking 7k sounds like a good price. What do you all think?

i have noticed that sd's are getting pretty cheap. that was has gotten my mind turning. but i would still be looking at 99-00, which might need as much as what i all ready have.... we will have to see what going on when the wife gets out of nursing school this summer......

I would not get a truck with a rebuilt title. You can't sale it for what it is worth. Go for the IDI. It's the best deal you got going so far. Just my 2 cents.

here is some info for all who read this to keep in mind.

I work at a dealership. There are a lot of idi's around here working day in and out. there are a more psd's but I hardly every see an idi in the shop for any reason, if I do its poor maintanance or fuel related (or both). the psd's on the other hand are in all the time and need thousands to fix.

I am keeping my idi and getting more when I can find and afford them.

the old saying is true in this case "they don't build em like that anymore"

you have a point, but...... most driving around idi's are too poor to bring it to someone to fix. psd's are the new yuppie mobiles.

Ford actually did build the F350 CC in 4x4, but only in SRW. Somebody (maybe Towcat) had a great quote on this a while ago that was something like:

Crewcab
Dually

Pick 2 but you can't have all 3.

Er, that's what I meant. I have a SRW CC LB with factory 4x4. Have seen more of them with it than without it, but i've never in person seen a dually cc/lb 4x4, only centurian conversions on here and ebay.

I'd take either and IDI or a PSD. If cash was an issue though, probably the IDI. But it would be fun to have the fast feel of a modded PSD. Maybe I just miss my 67 Firebird 400

a modded psd will stomp an idi in power but not in reliability. an idi is as close to bulletproof as you can get without kevlar. they are rock solid and dont give in. workhorse, tank, plow, tractor, whatever you want to call them they take the cake in the reliabilty ratings.

anybody with a credit card can build a fast cummins, but no one can build a more reliable motor that works hard than the idi ih. my opinion, no real facts to back it other than what I see day to day working for ford in in truck dealership.

Thanks guys...........for the great info , But I do think the IDI is too much money if it was cheaper and the guy would come down then I possibly would take a look at it. I think I might go test drive the 97 PSD and try to get a hold of the guy with the 99 PSD. Thanks yall.

ya my friend just bought a 99 SD in adrian for $6000. really nice truck. another reason for having a newer truck is how quite they are inside. you still hear the motor very well but without all that road noise. not to mention the ride is so much nicer! i did notice that the PSD warms up very quickly in the winter. in less than ten minutes its to operating temp! heat comes out the dash right after starting!

The idi w the turbo is prob a lil more power than a stock PSD but you are limited to how much you can get out of the idi . where as the psd your wallet is the limit. But if you are lookin for reliaility and cheap do it your self repairs the idi is the way to go but that does sound a bit high for the truck. I was gona build my idi but i have decided for what i want a PSD swap is in order

theres a junkyard close by me here that has about 10-15 psd motors just sitting around waiting for a place to go... most have turbos on them. no wire harness of course but if you want to play around with building one having another motor might not be too bad an idea...
