92 R350 HOOD LATCH

Here it is the 25th of may and I still haven't got the Damn hood open.

Trying since LAST OCTOBER TO GET SOMEONE TO TAKE A PICTURE OF THE LATCH WITH YOUR HOOD OPEN, IT'S A 1992 F350 TRUCK.

DO I HAVE TO GO TOO THE FTE OR TDS FOR HELP.

When it quits raining I will get you a picture of my '92. It is possible to get them open without the puller working, it just takes awhile (I had to do this on my '89). Can't promise that this site will post my picture though

Looking through the top opening of the grill, you will see this-

If you reach your hand right behind this angled piece, you can pull the latch toward the drivers side of the truck and open the hood. I verified this on my truck that it can be opened without the cable.

Here are a few more angles. The candy cane shaped lever is what you need to pry on with a screw driver to release. Much easier to get to on an '89.

cpdenton: THANK YOU - THANK YOU For the PIc's. I see now there is a little plate over the latch trigger, that's why I can't open it. My wrist is all cut up trying to follow the cable to it. Gonna print your pic and try again, otherwise it's a torch, just hate to ruin the hood.

Just reach your finger just around that angled piece in my second picture. The lever should be centered right over the lowest part of that metal piece sticking down. I was able to grab mine with one finger and move it to the drivers side which popped the hood open.

Here is as pic with a mirror looking at the area of interest. I circled the mirror image of the cable hooking over the lever. That is directly on the backside of the tip of the arrow.

Got the SOB unlatched after taking the Brush guard off. Still couldn't get it, hood was down so tight, got the lever over, but had to push really down ******* the hood and it finely popped OPEN.

The spring that pulls the latch cable back was broke, so when I pushed the handle in it evidently flipped the cable off the arm.

Like in my earlier post. I thought it was going to require you to push down on the hood to ease the opening. That damn spring holds the hood tight to the latch. Thats why when you pull the cable from inside the truck you see the hood pop up to the safety latch position. Thats safety keeps the hood from flying up on the windshield if someone pulls the leer in the cab when they reach for the parking brake. It just pops open and not fly up over the cab.. Seen that a few times on the roads too...

Glad you got it! You might be able to take some of the pressure off that latch by turning down the hood bumpers at either end of the core support. If the hood is too low already, adjust that latch a little higher and spray the with some lube.

Good looking truck. Makes me want my sidewinder kit on that much more.
