87 ford 6.9 diesel pto

is it posuble to put a older pto on it has the newer 5 speed out of like early 90s it looks loke it has the spots for it to bolt on but idk if the drive gears wode line up
couse im wanting to put it on for a wood spliter hook up

tooth count is critical. good thing is new PTO's are still avail for our ZF's. they're just pricey.
