Putting the 02/94 7.3 idiT together and got to the back of the engine with the cast iron pipe bolted to the turbo. That "pipe" descends into a three way fitting. Is there supposed to be a seal in there somewhere? I can't believe that is a just a straight pipe fitting without a seal of some sort where it slides into the 3 way fitting. (??)

If it’s the ATS 093 kit this is the diagram. it should slide in snugly and then the soot will seal it. If it’s worn which it most likely is you may need to add sealer. Some have used high temp copper rtv and others have used stove pipe cement. I had an 088 which had a slip fit (it was very snug) and the soot did seal it. I was leary of it as well.

Thank you for that.
Soot seal. That's a new one for an exhaust system. I will locate some high temp copper seal. I had a feeling that was the case but wasn't quite willing to bet the boom dollar on it.
