Just going down the highway and heard valve noise popped off the valve cover and saw this, so much for the 7.3 ones being stronger
Thoughts on what caused this out of luck of the draw?

Assuming it needs a valve, rocker obviously, pushrod and maybe a lifter

Is there any possibility that there's valve/piston clearance issues? I don't remember if you did any engine work or just installed the head studs.

Didn’t touch the bottom end at all, just studs, cam, and valve springs
What I found odd was when I took the motor down to do that one of the #3 push rods was bent but it ran so well it was bizzare?
Bent a pushrod now the rocker hopefully this is just a coincidence?

Here is a picture of the bent pushrod when I took the motor down at the start of the year

You might want to dig down and check the Hydraulic Valve Lifters.
There was a member that posted pictures of 2 or 3 of his Lifter Clips coming off. Think they bent 1 or more of the Push Rods.

I dove in and replaced all lifters, new American Made Push Rods.
(same Brand CDD sells) and a set of Rockers out of a 93 from PNP.
Looked to be in great shape, less wear that the stock 6.9 one`s I removed.
The lifters are the same from 83 all the way up to something like the 6.7 diesels, and some GM engines also.
Got them from a dealer back east that had them on E-Bay, free shipping, and marked down from the retail price.
Was replacing the IP & Injectors at the time, and decided to
dig my way in for piece of mind.

Been running smooth as a Baby`s smooth powered Butt.

Changed them at 348K now up to 368K.
