7.3 loses power

I have a 1994 ford 350 class C motorhome. Normal driving, it runs fine. When it is under a load pulling a horsetrailer with 2, 1000 lb horses it has a hard time getting to the top of some hills( reaching 30 to 40 Km/hr). It also smokes black a lot while under load. I looked into a banks turbo but that sounds pretty costly, been quoted anywhere from $7000 to $10000 installed. Also I did get a mention that the fuel pump and injectors may be another option. I have 205,000 km on the engine. Anyones thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks

Now, is it a PowerStroke, or an IDI?

It is an IDI.

Then I would suggest that you post in the idi forums. However, a naturally aspirated idi will struggle with hills, especially in a vehicle such as you described.
