7.3 idi injection pump

i am new but just wondering if I could take a 6.9 idi injection pump off one of my pickups and put it in my 7.3 idi or how do I time the pump to be on the right injector at the right time

The pump will fit on, the fuel setting might need to be changed though, Wes on here could tell you more on that. Also don't pull the pump off with the housing and gear. Just remove the cover on the front of the housing , then the three bolts holding the gear to the pump. As long as you do that all will stay timed right. If you don't , well you create a lot of extra work for yourself.

You can make this work easily.All the injection pumps fit both engines but. Many times special wrenches are required to remove the pump. NEVER remove a pump with the gear housing still connected to it. You loose the gear timing and its nearly impossible to re time the gears cause you can't see the marks. Now know the wreches needed. A 9/16 to remove the three nuts, not the bolts that holds the pump to the gear aluminum housing. The nuts are ruff to see but they are there. The passenger side nut is below the pump flange under the fast idle solenoid.Just remove it for better working room. The three bolts behind the front cover are a 12 point 5/16 so get a socket for this bolt.1/4 or 3/8 drive works fine. Leave all the hard lines connected to the pump but remove the feed line from the filter to the pump.Back at the intake manifold you need to remove the throttle cable mount and remove the cables from the pump. Once everything is loose remove the hard lines at each injector.Now push the pump towards the intake manifold.Once its there move it slightly towards the passenger side so the flange comes up between the top and bottom studs that hold the pump to the housing. Lift the pump free of the engine watching for snags. Its that easy. Installing is the reverse. Never remove the hard line vibration clamps or run the engine without them.They can stay on the lines no problem. Hand tighten all hard lines to the injectors BEFORE using a wrench to tighten. Otherwise you may cross thread the lines and that can ruin the injector threads. It will NOT harm the hard line nut because its a harder material...
