7.3 heads on a 6.9?

I noticed a cheap set of 7.3 IDI heads come up on marketplace in my local area. I know the later rockers can be an upgrade for 6.9 heads, but can the entire assembly be used on a 6.9?

Are you asking if the entire head can be used.... it could, you would just need some kind of sleeve to go from the 1/2 in bolt holes in the 7.3 heads to the 7/16 studs/bolts in the 6.9.

No, there isn't enough meat to drill the 6.9 out to 1/2 bolt holes

I'd looked into it when I got a 7.3 with a bad bottom end for the turbo, and got the same response about the head bolts.

Could always try these and see if they'd work...

You would have to remember to order two sets of those. Our IDIs use more head bolts than the Ford Windsor engines do. Other than that, they may work.

I doubt that the bolt length would matter since these are just bushings that slide over the bolts. Naturally, they're out of stock though.

Nothing. I eventually bought melling rocker arms to upgrade to the later style.
