6.9 glow plug and fss wiring help needed

On a 1984 f350 with a 6.9 idi which wire powers the glow plug solenoid and which one sends power to the fss. Im having a really hard time figuring it out. i thought the purple wire powered the glow plug solenoid but when i put power to the fss the solenoid clicked. So now im really lost i have no idea what powers either one.

You're right. The purple wire does power the solenoid. There may be some bad wiring there. You can check this by unhooking the purple wire and then powering the solenoid. You can also check to see if the FSS is really powering the glow plug solenoid by unhooking the purple wire and then putting power to the FSS. Then you can check for power at the purple wire by using a test light. The FSS should NOT also power the glow plug solenoid.
