Engineers can and will screw up too just like anyone else can. *cavitation*. Make it cost efficient, decently, with an acceptable failure rate.

How many hours did IH test engines at 3000+ rpm, 4000+? How many engines, did any fail and if so how? I dont know. If anyone does it might help us understand better. Otherwise its everyones best guess. The harder you run an engine the shorter its life. We all know that (i hope).
