Will always come down to gearing and the truck itself.

As far as dependability, the p pump 12v cummins is far superior to all diesel engine choices in the year range of pickups you are looking at.

whats your motivation?

My preference would be converting a DRW to singles. Then you have the higher gvwr headroom while saving on width and tires.
