I recently came across a 93 amtran/ward b700 school bus as a possible donor for a conversion towrig project. It has a 5.9 12v with a 5 speed manual.does anyone know what type of trans came in these buses? build tag listed cy code for trans if that helps.:dunno:

figured it out

trans is an eaton FS5005A. By decoding the #s it seems to be a fuller synchronized=first two digits. Third digit x100= nominal torque capacity. Fourth=design cookoo Fifth=forward speeds and six being gear set. with a first gear ratio=7.52 2nd=4.35 3rd=2.54 4th=1.52 5th=1.00.
First does anyone know if this would be a worthwile option for a conversion into towrig project? would there be major clearance issues? Also would i be able to use a divorced mount transfer case. Any input on what gear ratios would work well or possibly need an overdrive or brownie of some sort. Im still in the design/essential parts gathering stage so any input would be greatly appreciated. By the way the 5.9 is an inlline pump 93 model.:hail
