3G alternator swap.

Anyone know where i can find a wright up on the 3g swap, i tried searching but found nothing. Woud like to do it to my truck, did it on the 390 in my 79 and it was the best mod ever on that..

OK so here's the plan

I've been hopelessly searching online and in every junk yard for three days now for the clip that melted off my old alternator. Classic, so now I've no choice but to replace the whole alternator and get a new clip that fits that. I'm going back to the junk yard tomorrow where I think I saw one of these 3g units as I was searching for my original clip.

I'm a dope and so I've got a few questions about how to rework the electrical, based on the description found in the link provided ( thanks by the way )

is our esteemed author of that link still listening in, cause I'm screwed over here. I've no choice but buy a whole new alternator and either find someone who can lead me step by step through the process as well as explain the various terminology, for instance, what is and where is the "1" terminal, factory ( b+ ) wire ? and things like that.

Thanks for the link's, looks like i mite be spending 135.00 on a new one, i have'nt been able to find one from a 3.8 taurus yet with the 8.25 ears...

I paid $165.00..... and I don't regret it a bit.

paid about $25 and switched out the belt for the pully's, You were right, scary not enough threads on there. I didn't sinch it down but yah, used the red threadlock.

Now to study up on the wiring and get this thing in the truck.

Oh and the key switch also went smoothly, got it out no problem, now to install another one and see if that fixes it.

all in all a very successful day

just looked through my options and I got the 8.25 3G yikes 160 amps, no wonder that thing has about an 0 sized bat cable.

I did the welder and alternator (separate) for under $100. The welder looks intimidating, but is not. It is not as fancy as the above one, but still burns a lgood weld!

I'm having a little trouble reading that wiring diagram ( http://fordfuelinjection.com/public/alternator/3G-ALT_wiring.gif ) where does that green line connect to, look it should be ground but I can't really see where its going, something about the instrument cluster, Also it looks like wire marked W/BK just feeds back to the alternator ? is that right, seems a little iffy to just cross a wire right back into the system like that. wire marked in yellow on this diagram also could use some clarification. Where's it going to? looks like to the positive going to the battery but that can't be right.

OK I'm a dope but that diagram leaves a lot to be desired > although I appreciate it none the less.

I'm all ready to stick this thing in the truck but it might be best to run my wires first.

I have some pics on my computer at home...if you can wait, or I did a write up on FTE showing it with the same pics. The green wire with red tracer ties right into the one from the factory harness. It excites the field. Ford did not change the colors over the years. Yes, the white wire does loop back onto the alternator.
