Just a called about a truck and the guy said that it had a 3 spd in it. It has the shifter in the floor. What trans would that be? The truck has 142k on it and he has it for the past 10 years. I can get it cheap but don't know about the trans.

3 speed? ford never offered a 3 speed after 86 or so and that was in the 1/2 tons with overdrive. maybe a T19 if its factory...or a ZF-5. that is unless someone swapped the trans out...

Some T-18s looked like a 3 speed to the uninformed. The stick was marked L, 1, 2, 3, and R. It is possible the truck has a stick or just the ball from one of these transmissions.

Is the truck a 4x4? If so.......the stick could be the T-case shifter and the truck could have the C6 (three speed). Not sure when the C6 stopped and the E4OD started?:dunno There is no three speed manual Ford diesel tranny that was factory.

I'd like to go see it. I can only think of a T18 with the gears and low or a C6 with a 4X4. I think there was a 3 speed manual but it was never offered behind the diesel. This truck could have it but it would be non factory option(oddball swap) I'd want to see it and take pics if its a genuine 3 speed manual!

I had a mid-late 70's ford truck with a 3 speed but that was behind a 6cylinder adn I doubt it would bolt/last with a diesel?
like mentioned its proly a t18, cant imagine anyone mistaking a t-case shifter for a manual.

the E4OD started in '89 right? so thats what it would be if automatic? that truck would be slow as hell if it was a three speed. hope you like high rpms! LOL

it's probably just a c6 with an aftermarket floorshifter cause he never said it is a manual he just sais 3speed with a floor shifter. guy must have thought it was a hotrod. LOL

ford had three 4 speed manuals (T-85, T86, T-87, T89) in the early trucks (60-75ish) and a variety of 3 speed w/ overdrives.

don't forget the NP435, the 85,86 and 87 are new ones to me. the T89 was the predecessor to the T-18/19 it had bronze bushings and a weaker oiling system compared to the 18/19 but is almost identical.
