there is only 2 gear sets available for the ford dana 80.the 4.62s wich you have and the 5.13s that i have.if you know of others that will fit it please tell me where to find them as i need to get rid of these 5.13s.they are way too low.they were OK with the auto.i was able to cruise 65/70MPH with it,70 was pushing it.now with the 5 speed its screaming bloody murder at 60MPH.i lost 5-10 MPH with the ZF.i think its cuz the ZF came out of a pickup and not another 450.ive driven other trucks that are the same as mine with 5 speeds and they all cruised 65-70MPH with no problems.another friend has an f350 with a c6 that cruises the highway better than my 94 with the ZF.i like the 5speed but i think it was a mistake.

you have a problem with yours. I am running 70-75 comfortable and 85 pushing hard with my carrier. but here's my concern, there's not difference between the pickup vs. the f450 trans as far as the final ratio is concerned. it's the first gear through 3rd gear that makes a difference. biggest help in silencing the noise is the shifter boot.the inner boot is a elastomer membrane that does wonders in keeping the heat and noise out of the cab. the rubber boot you normally see does nothing other than look nice. i have the part number in the "parts bin". try it out, it just might be the best $75 you've spent for keeping your sanity as far as your truck is concerned.:D;Sweet

I have the inner boot in my F250 as well, it made a big difference in the noise level. I cruise at 2100 rpm at 70mph with the ZF in my F250, 3.55 gears. Stock 235-85-16 tires. Geared for daily driving, unlike my F450...LOL

Mine runs 60mph @ 2300rpm with the E4OD and 4.63's, I'd like to see 4.10's in there to ease up on the fuel bill.
4.63 is the lowest you can get with a D80 built for our f450's.
there's lower, but it involves a housing change and 3rd member changeout. in short, it's going to get real spendy fast.

I can live with the 4.63's, I'll probably love them the first time I tow my buddy's car trailer with it...LOL...The F250 hauls it but not with much authority....LOL

already have the inner boot in it.i forget what rpm im running ill have to look in the idi forum.its not the noise that bothers me,im used to older trucks.i used to run around in a 79 F350 with a 460 in it when everybody said it couldnt be done.that was 55MPH at 2800RPM with 4.10s and a 4 speed.its the speedo and tach that drive me nuts.when the tach starts to get close to 3000rpm when im just cruising the highway trying to keep its slow ass going with traffic that i start to worry.i hate running anything over 25-2700RPM for longer than needed.

my psd will run 85-90 all day long comfortably.70-75 with ease.thats running the auto with 4.10s.both trucks run the same size tires,235/85/16.both speedos are spot on according to the speed trap signs that the cops use that show how fast youre going.

do a few cheap mods to that PSD and you will wonder why you even bothered with an IDI.id love to find somebody that wanted to do a drivetrain swap with me.give me thier PSD and everything i need to put it in my truck and ill give them my factory turbo IDI with everything they need to put it in thier truck.after playing with my PSD i wont buy another IDI.too damn slow and gutless for me.ill find a wrecked donor truck in my travels for that swap within the next couple of months.:D i need the power and fuel mileage that the PSD gets.i need a few more years out of my truck before i get rid of it for newer so a drivetrain upgrade is in store for next spring.

Well, the deal has been made....$600 for the two axles and all six rims/tires.:D;Sweet....Wether I use them or not I could not pass them up for $600....The wheels and tires are worth that. Pic's to come next week....If I don't use them I can sell them for a tidy profit. My D80 rear and six 16" wheels with good rubber will fetch $1000 easily so I can't loose if I choose to do the swap.

but ya 600 for those axles was a steal.not sure exactly what they are worth but id have to say you could double your money real easy on those.

The rear looks bigger then my 80, Towcat said it should be a D110....If I can't get some steady work for the truck as it sit's, I will make it into a plow truck next summer.

FWIW, I went with 19.5's and hated them. Took a big loss to get out of them and was happy about it. 19.5's are great loaded, but empty.... I consider them dangerous. My truck bounced around on the road to the point I felt very uncomfortable running empty. I have a buddy with a F450 CC 4x4 Flatbed, and he has the same feeling when running empty. IMO 19.5 do not belong on light trucks, period.

Dana 80's have 3rd members? I have a 88 F-Superduty that susposedly has a dana 80 in it and it's got a rear cover, if it's not a Dana 80 then what else was offered? I had my ex's dad (a local mechanic and teacher for Alma's auto tech. program) run the numbers stamped into the axle.
