1990 7.3 Rebuild!

This is a go! I got the ok from my better half, just gotta spend a little every week, or save a little every week to buy the big ticket items.

I have a 1990 7.3 N/A with a mere 60 000 miles on it. It's been out of the truck for some couple of years now, and god knows what lies inside. It shouldn't be worn out, but it may have got water inside.

I want to take the heads off, and see if water got into the cylinders. It needs a new oil pan, pump and injectors wouldn't hurt either.

Any ideas or tips?

I got 2 trucks going to the scrap yard if you need anything from them.

get a beefy engine stand.

i did the same thing you did... one big ticket (>$200) item per paycheck. thats why it took me several months to rebuild.

while i had my engine out i degreased everything... on the block and under the hood. that paid me back in spades later. i also redid all the vacuum, heater, and fuel hoses.

i bought a gasket set that included some doubles (two lift pump gaskets for example) as well as new valve seals. i feel those are worth your while. i also did a new front and rear main and valve cover gaskets. if you are a neat freak like me, you may want to get that set. i think it was around $110 for the gasket set, another $10 a piece for the front and rear mains, plus a $20 bottle of retaining compound since they have to be pressed in.

I DEFINITLY want to paint it IH red with black valve covers, red hard lines, black pump, red breather with a red lid. I have sort of a soft spot for the 'binders lol

Turbo and moose pump, and Torque cam and Matched BB's from russ then it will be good to go

I still have the line on a rebuilt 7.3 IDI with 7000 actual miles on it....$600 or less me thinks I can get it for. The current owner was here tonight buying parts from me. I've known him for 2+ years now as he buys parts and converters from me. The engine was rebuilt at the local Ford dealer - he has the receipts. He mentioned he needed a few things for his new truck so I'm going to try and weasel barter deal to get it........Completely rebuilt, new IP and the works he said. Recored rad, rebuilt C6 2wd trans.
