    It's a Squirter!

Thanks for feedback. After it cools off, I'll go check out the end with a magnifying glass to see if there are any hairline fractures, etc. Damn, I just replaced these 6 months ago. Supposedly was a good set made in Italy (not chicom).

    It's a Squirter!

This is probably a common problem. See this video: https://www.icloud.com/sharedalbum/#B0aJ0DiRH067zEU Things I just tried: 1. Removed the return line cap and replaced the two o-rings with new ones. 2. Replaced the return line cap. 3. Made sure I seated the steel nipple properly at the top of...

Does this sound like my IDI is missing?

Update: don't use those o-rings from Harbor Freight. The one I used failed after about 2 hrs of run time.

Does this sound like my IDI is missing?

By the way, I just tried a cold start. I see mostly grey/whitish smoke, not black. Going down the list for #3: a. no obvious issues in steel line from filter to IP. b. filter used to leak, but I fixed by deleting the heater. No leaks now. c. Here are some pics of the life pump. Looks like I...

Does this sound like my IDI is missing?

I just read through the forum searching for 'air intrusion'. Here are my notes: 1. Symptoms of AI: a. hard starting (runs better after air gets worked out of system because fuel has drained back into the tank before IP) b. surging under load c. black smoking when starting d. black smoking under...

Does this sound like my IDI is missing?

Thanks, everyone. Y'all gave me some good homework assignments. @IDIBRONCO, on your suggestion, I'm going to start with idle speed adjustments before I tweak timing. Thanks @Old Goat, I read/heard not to adjust timing with engine on. By the way, this seems like a good tutorial for adjusting IP...

Does this sound like my IDI is missing?

Thanks for the detailed reply! This forum is great. No, didn't check the timing. That was my first thought. I have been meaning to try that one myself. (I really should have installed the new lines myself; but I had a break down and towed to the shop, so I just let them do it). Black smoke at...

Does this sound like my IDI is missing?

By the way, a little tidbit to share. I had a leaky fuel return line/cap. Took it off and notice the top o-ring was damaged. I replaced with #11 from the Harbor Freight pack. Worked like a charm.

Does this sound like my IDI is missing?

https://www.icloud.com/sharedalbum/#B0aJ0DiRH067zEU (link contains a 1 min video that is too large to post here) IDIs are new to me; in my naiveté I just assumed this is how an IDI Diesel sounds. A local mechanic installed some new fuel lines for me, and mentioned that it was missing, asking...

Where did you get your IP?

    Injector Lines / Kit for a '93 F-250 7.3 IDI

Good afternoon, Have my F-250 in the shop and mechanic is telling me that the #3 and #7 injector lines need to be replaced. We're having a hard time finding any--either from junk yards or new. Any suggestions on where I can get some new ones? A kit for all 8 lines would be preferable. Thanks...

    Chasing Down Fuel Leaks

Just finished installing expansion plug. Works like a champ. Thanks again! https://share.icloud.com/photos/0-Rs9rialyLldBOpj3S9KMDkg

    Chasing Down Fuel Leaks

I am going to try deleting it with a Dorman 02608 expansion plug, like this one: https://www.dormanproducts.com/p-1054-02608.aspx This was recommended on another thread. Most seem to think the heater unnecessary, as far as I can tell. I keep the Bear in the garage--as well as living in...

    Chasing Down Fuel Leaks

So, thanks to help from this forum, I have addressed most of the fuel leaks in 'the Bear'. Current status: 1) no leaks in the valley from IP, 2) no leaks around Injectors, Glowplugs, or Injector return line caps. But, after running it a while, I found one other little leak: around the fuel...

starting after replacing glow plugs, injectors, etc.

It’s running pretty great, not even much smoke, so timing is hopefully pretty close to optimal.

help a noob identify these components

I was able to get down there with a crow's foot wrench I got at Harbor Freight. Of course, I cross-threaded one of my new injectors putting everything back together, and had to replace with an old injector (hopefully Napa will let me swap the cross-threaded one). Anyway, no more leaks! Running...

help a noob identify these components

One last thing. Does anyone have any tricks for tightening the hard to reach nuts on the injector pump? I have one at the bottom (~5 o'clock facing the pump) that needs to be tightened. I don't see a good way to get down there to it--even if I remove the 3 lines above it...

help a noob identify these components

It found it leaking in the valley. Loose nut to the injection pump. It was down there and had to take off 2 to get to it. But got it tightened! problem solved! thanks for suggestion; y’all got me on the right track.

help a noob identify these components

So I have a pretty bad diesel leak underneath. I thought it was coming from fuel return lines, injectors, etc., which were in fact leaking pretty badly. Replaced the fuel return lines, caps, new injectors, new glow plugs, and a new fuel filter. Everything is now dry as a bone on top. However as...

I got it running by bleeding at the schraeder valve until it was squirting fuel. Smoking like the devil, but running well. Thanks!

starting after replacing glow plugs, injectors, etc.

Good evening, First, thank you all for advice on another thread regarding recommended glow plugs (Motorcraft all the way). So, I've finish replacing the glow plugs (no breaks!), fuel injectors, and return lines. I also had to disconnect some of the steel fuel lines to check if they were still...

    Glow Plugs Brand Rec

By the way, looks like Advance Auto Parts carries ZD-9s. A lot of stores local to me (Bham, Alabama), have them in stock: https://shop.advanceautoparts.com/p/motorcraft-original-equipment-o.e.-glow-plug-zd-9/18090050-P?searchTerm=diesel glow plugs

    Glow Plugs Brand Rec

Where do y'all typically get your Motorcraft parts? Advance has Motorcraft glow plugs, not Motorcraft FIs. p.s. I posted this before I saw @chillman88's latest post. Thanks!

Thanks, @chillman. On FIs, "NAPA Echlin Diesel" OK, Delphi, or something else?

    Glow Plugs Brand Rec

Good morning all, I'm doing a fuel system tune-up on my '91 Ford F-250 7.3L IDI--replacing injectors, return lines, glow plugs, and (perhaps) fuel lines. Any recommendations on brand for glow plugs? I have heard that some tend to swell, making them hard to remove. My current plan is just to...
