    Time to move on...

Well, fixed the squeal. Turns out one springs for the brake shoes snapped. Quick and easy fix, though! Another week or two and this will hit the classified section. Mike

    Time to move on...

Well, all good things come to an end... The family's up to 5 now, so I went and picked up a clean enough 1993 C2500 Suburban with a 454. Now that I have its issues sorted, I find myself driving it more and the truck less. No big whoop to have both since the truck doesn't cost much, but then I...

    How much straight pipe cost?

I had a muffler shop hack out my muffler and straight pipe it. Mine has a Banks turbo kit. I can't remember the exact cost, but it couldn't have been more than $125 or so. Volume is fine. Only obnoxious if I'm on it, or the oh-so-sweet "jake brake effect" on decel. Mike

Yup. Those are my weapons of choice. Mike

BEST and WORST water pumps, gaskets?

FWIW, I had a Motorcraft pump fail after about a year. Now running a *gasp* ACDelco pump. No issues. Probably the same factory anyway, lol. I used a razor blade to clean the surface, and a file to knock off any sharp edges on the pump. For RTV, I used the stuff made for water pumps and...

Coolant leak on the dirty pearl

I installed a Motorcraft unit and ended up having to replace it again within a year or two. New one is from NAPA and seems to be doing fine (about a year now). Not sure if maybe I just messed up the install on the first one or what, but it ended up leaking out the weap hole. Mike

Fuel tank mod now results in massive fuel spill at pump

Yep. Instead of the normal click with maybe an occasional trickle back at me, now I get a small flood. Mike

Fuel tank mod now results in massive fuel spill at pump

So, like most, my truck struggles with taking fuel at the pump. It clicks off all the dang time unless you trickle it in. Rear tank is by far the worst. A couple of weeks ago, after reading up on this some more, I decided to do the "mod" where you enlarge the vent hole using a Philips...

    Over charging??

3G is internally regulated and was never an option in IDI-equipped trucks (I think). 1G is externally regulated. The regulator sits on the top side of the passenger wheelwell under the hood. Mike

LED Headlight Bulbs in lieu of Relay

Beam pattern looks like you'll be making lot of friends on the road. High and scattered. LMC makes a relay kit thats plug n play, takes no time at all to install, and works fine. Mike

    Over charging??

Sounds like a regulator. I would also advocate going with a 3G upgrade. Mike

Post your cold starts, they’re fun to watch

'Cold' start here would be maybe high 30s on the worst day. Like any other day, if I let the GPs cycle, it'll fire off faster than any vehicle I've ever owned. Mike

    3G Alternator and V-Belt Misfortune

First I've ever heard of a pulley being 'non diesel'. What's the difference? Like I said, I'm running this same alternator. No issues. Mike

    3G Alternator and V-Belt Misfortune

I run the same alternator. Yes, the belt sits proud, but I have no issues with belt squeal. Maybe just a glazed belt? Mike

    3G alternator p/n

Yes, the PN you have in your ebay link is correct. That's the one I have in my truck. Mike

    V Belts replacement

I can never remember exactly which bolts do which, but as been mentioned, pretty much everything has a pivot bolt and a adjustment/tension bolt. Loosen both/all, then start cranking. Mike

    Motorcraft/Beru Glow Plugs-YOU HAVE TO ASK !!!

I know ripping on the general ineptitude of your typical parts store worker is common fodder on automotive forums, but did you seriously expect the parts guy to know about Autolite GPs and our trucks? As someone who worked auto parts for years, I can tell you that, amazingly, there was no...

    Fuel pressure issue

The only way the relay would be 'causing' your battery to drain is if you wired the 'switch' power (the one that is telling the relay to turn on), to a constant power source. Make sure it's tied to a switched 12V source, i.e. something that's only on when the ignition is on. Mike

    Gotta Love Moog's Lifetime Warranty!

Moog is one company that won't get any more of my money. Rock Auto is another. Both hosed me bad on the same large transaction for my Suburban and it took months to resolve, netting me hundreds in money lost. Never again! Mike
