starter swap didn't work
After reading about it and being assured :) that it would work, I swapped out the direct drive starter with one off a Cummins. Just spins - never engages. Tested on the floor before install - bendix moves out. Enough? Dunno. It is a used starter (history unknown).- fsmyth

question on timing
I have noticed that when a tank gets empty (right before I switch) the engine smooths out and gains speed. Is this a timing issue? There is no excessive smoke - what there is white/light gray.
