Since my 87 6.9 died I won't be needing my gear splitter/over drive unit along with a rebuilt transfer case.
The unit is a US gears (I believe) and bolts up between the transmission and tranfer case so you can use it even in 4wd. Have to shorten the rear drive line and lengthen the front. It...
Sounds just like mine (7.3). I swapped a 6.9 IP into it and it ran much differently, better but it seemed that the timing was too far advanced and I couldn't get it to stop rattling. It idled like a cummins and didn't have much power and I turned the fuel up till it smoked the same amount as the...
I have a 1990 f250 7.3 with the zf5 trans.
When it is idling and in nuetral without the clutch pedal pushed in the tranny makes a clunking noise and sort of a grinding noise. It goes away when the clutch pedal is pushed in and the trans is not spinning. The trans shifts great, no grinding...
Ya, I know better but I thought since it the lifters are rollers they would be fine. One of these days I may learn, probably not though.
Any hoooo, the engine is all buttoned up and I did not use the longer pushrods. The truck runs much better. No missing and no smoke at idle. I need to get...
The new lifters are in and the pre load seems good with the original pushrods. I got the rockers arms tightened to zero valve lash and then finished tightening the rocker arms down, about 1 full turn. That is about like a gas engine with hydraulic lifters. I am going to finish assembly and see...
Hey everybody,
I am in the process of replacing the lifters right now but I had to make this post and tell you what I found in the process of replacing them.
The plungers of the lifters are all the way up when the cam is not on a lobe. The cam is a regrind and the round portion of the...
Agnem,
That is a great idea. I will wait to install the new injectors until I can evaluate the new cam properly. It would yield a result that is more comparable to the power the engine produced before the changes. Thanks for the input.
I made boost about like you did Diesel JD. About .5 in the 1800 rpm range and the turbo did not become efficient until about 2150 rpm. The extra boost at the lower rpm tells me that it is flowing more. I like the extra torque for sure.
Even though I had worn out components, there is a...
I finished installing a camshaft from Russ, Type4 and although I have a few bugs to work out I thought I would post a report on what I have noticed.
Torque and lower egt's. That is what I have noticed and even with lifters that don't like being on a new cam, I have more torque. My lifters...
Even better.
I am going to change my oil tomorrow and see if a little driving will help the lifters work. If not I will need some new ones. I don't want to hurt the valves. I checked the push rods and they are all straight.
I rotated the engine manually and and checked the play in the...
Chris @ Penn Diesel said fedural mogul lifters where $30 each so $480 altogether. A valley pan gasket set is only $69 so that is not bad.
I am going to do some research on the Falcon parts. I have never heard of them so I don't know what to think.
How many miles on your injectors? If they are over 100K they will through your timing off and or you could have one or more cylinders that fire too soon. The pop off pressure drops and the injector that is worn will open before one that is not.
I messed with my timing and found that I got a...
I just sent an email to Penn Diesel and asked about lifters. I apprecaite that info, thanks.
I have bought a few things from them in the past and I thought they had good service and quality products.
I see a set of Falcon Performance brand lifters. Anyone know anything about them? $159 on a buy it now. That is much cheaper then I have found any were else but I want something that is a quality product too.
Great exchange on the positive side of things. I appreciate the fact that there are still good people who are really concerned about those around them. That is an attitude that is getting harder and harder to find these days. At least in my part of the world.
I often times am scanning posts...
I had been reading up on all the posts so I did do the 11 o clock thing. I too don't see how the valves could contact the pistons. If your cam is clocked correctly you should not be able to contact the pistons. Allthough if the the lifter changes height I guess it could since the tolerances are...
camshaft installed
I took the intake manifold and valley pan off again this morning and flipped the dog bones over. No damage at all.
Still have valve noise. I can tell one cylinder is not firing properly as there is a very slight miss and I am getting white smoke at idle. When it is cold...
