    4x4 swap question

    I can do the compete swap in one weekend. That includes removal of all 2wd stuff. I find it much easier than a cab swap. Picking up a cab is challenging for one person working with no lift. I manhandle the axles and such around and get them in.

    no need. heads are decent after porting. i aint going nuts, only a 4400 lb truck with half ton axles on 35's. lol

    been looking recently, thinking of going with a comp cam 286H cam set.hudraulic flat tappet, shows 268/268 advertised lift, 218/218 at .050 lift with 110 degrees of seperation. 1500-5500 rpm range. then adding the 68-72 comp chain to get the timing set pre smog. tempted to get a weiand...

    if you say it is in the downpipe, highest is about 800. if it is in the uppipe pre turbo highest is 1000 in the manifold will be 1200.

    i picked 4 in your poll. i picked ALL 4 of the mechanical diesels you listed. they all have their ups and downs. being your in AZ, rust isnt bad so any of them can be found. but all three brands mechanical diesels(gm PRE 94) are cheap, reliable easy to fix.

    yes you will need a pedal assy from a 92-97 truck. ford does still offer these new. well atleast they did a few years ago.

    i have never removed a manifold to drill/tap. turbo or not, hell 6.9 to 6.4 and a duramax. do it with it running. you will be amazed how much exhaust gets pushed back out the hole once you pop through it. blows everything right back into your face. wear googles.

    never had a balance problem on my hogged out rims. had 35's on them, balanced perfect. my 42's i have on them i never balanced cause it was never on the road again. and if you guys are worried about the rim being perfect on the hub so it is hub centric, please dear god dont ever buy aftermarket...

    to the OP, only part you wont be able to use from the 87 is the clutch pedal assy. but everything else will practically bolt right in.

    i ran back and forth from lima ohio to quakertown pa (9.5 hr drive) many times with my old 83. 4.10 gears with 35's and a 4 speed. 3000 rpm cruising at 70-75 mph. averaged 16-18 mpg. i would rather have a cast iron 4 speed over a zf5 if you are going to work the truck hard. and as also posted...

    with your gearing and tire size, with a 4 speed manual your top speed will be around 90. not 65 like posted above.
