I was wanting to know what oil filter do you use for the 7.3 IDI?

For reference, the factory FL784 filter was rated for like 30 Microns nominal... Looking for something finer.

Has anyone used the Baldwin B7513 that has a Micron Rating of 3 Nominal; 10 Absolute? Would a rating like this overwork the oil pump or substantially affect oil pressure?

The Baldwin B7039 has a micron rating of 9.8 Nominal; 27 Absolute and seems to be more commonly used on our motors.

The Motorcraft FL1995 is recommended often but cannot nail down the ratings for it.

The Donaldson DBL7405 is used by many 7.3 PSD users and is rated for 10 Nominal; 15 Absolute, very appealing as well.

Donaldson DBL7405

Appreciate y'alls thoughts

I'd use the Motorcraft FL 1995 oil filter. It's readily available and holds more oil than the others.

I use the Wix 51742 on my 6.9l.

I have a Baldwin B7039 on my 7.3 PSD. I realize that you are probably looking for IDI input, which would make my PowderChoke usage not ideal, but I believe I went to the Baldwin as it had better filtration specs than anything I could find on the old FL1995.

I'll stick with the FL1995, but that's because I have a case of 12 in the garage....
80% efficiency at 20 micron BTW.....
Pretty sure from looking at my oil after 100 miles a piece of window screen is good enough on an IDI.....

It’s idi I think the fact they still running at this age is proof it doesn’t matter what you put on it…. The truck will fall apart around it before the oil filter micron rating kills it

IIRC the PSD filter filtered better.... because its engine oil is used in what is effectively a hydraulics application.
