Hi in the Cascades, Nearly- Redmond,Oregon
Well on my original '90 7.3 with the V belts I never had pump problems. Always carried spare belts with me tho.
On this '94 factory IDIT engine with the serpentine belt setup the pump haas 3 hard to do little bolts to take it off. I put bout 90K miles on it since I put it in. Changed it out cause I was chasing a little click at idle. I got maybe 300 mi on this new one & it came apart.

My '92 (not running rite now) has the same serpentine belt setup as my '94 engine.
I may just pull the pump & pully off the '92 & run it for a while.

What kind/brand seems to be better now days? Seems like everyone is getting bad pumps. I just never had pump problems all these years till recently.

I ever get my shop built maybe I'll just build my own pump. LOL Build it outa ol frige pump or something! LOL LOL

Goat how close you to your PNP? I barely got one round here, one here round Redmond don't hardly got anything....specially 6.9-7.3 stuff....& what they got they spendy!

Funny story I accidentally found a hydroboost set up at the junkyard today wasn’t going to swap it for a while and then my vacuum pump pully came off on the drive home don’t even ask because I do not know I mean like that thing flew way into someone’s field

Anyways now I’m half way though the swap just need to get new master brake line fittings on

What electric vacuum pump are people running just for Cruze and hvac? I’ve just about had it with the stock one

With quality of these mechanical pumps being what they are, might be worth looking into if a 12v compressor can be used instead. Hook up the inlet side and let the compressor side go to atmosphere and you can pull 25hg of vacuum easy, at least on the Viair units I've tested. Bonus points if you hookup a few valves and are able to use it as a compressor as well.

Or just convert to hydroboost and run the tiny super duty vacuum for heater (+trans and cruise for C6)

I'm using one from a super duty, mounted on a plate near the passenger hood hinge out of the way. Will get pictures tomorrow, totally snagged the idea from someone else on this forum, though memory escapes me.

those of you with a hydro boost setup and a serpentine belt system....do you tear the guts out of the vacuum pump and use it as an idler pulley?

ttman4, closest PNP is 30 miles north of here. then east of Reno at Sparks, a good 60 miles.
No IDI`s in the Carson City yard but I think one in Sparks.

Com mie land has a bunch of PNP`s, think closest is Sacramento, but that is a drive over there.

In the Portland area you have 4 I have hit when visiting my Daughter. Foster off 205, Sherwood on 99, one out on Commercial and then Vancouver.
haven`t been up there since 2014.

With that thing you can then throw on a good set of long Trumpet Air Horns on the roof.

I might just do that when I get round to doing my hydroboost thingie. Got lots to do soon.....Get my shop up & finished, work some more on Bessie, etc, etc Then figure out what I got to do to do the Hydroboost.

You got it off a Superduty correct? What year?

Mine is a '90 F350. What all years are the same brake set-up? IE: Your '86 same as my '90?
And what years of Superduty do I need to start being on the look out for, or what other rigs hydroboost will work on my '90?

What it comes down to is I need to get with it & find a hydroboost set up that will work on my '90.....& get r did!!!

I got it of a 90’ f superduty I presume all f superdutys will work, it was all plug and play minus the pedal mod

For the 250 and 350’s the brake setup is slightly from 86 to 90 they have different master cylinders and the 90 will have rear abs

I’m aware that people have used other models for hydroboost but then they run into issues with pressure, firewall fitment, and booster rod geometry. In my opinion that’s would be too much effort for this swap so personally it’s f-superduty or nothing

OK thanks @Austin86250 I'm gonna start looking as well get up in the tec articles & look.
I went forever never having Vac pump problems on my '90 & my '92 but lately seems everyone is.
my favorite solution is to find a good used OEM one mine lasted 160k miles and other even more
