I pulled 3 GPs since you guys got me interested. They're Beru brand from Germany. 1 of them tested at 1.1, but the other 2 wouldn't read anything! Is that due to them being bad or to my lack of multimeter ability?

Edit:
-looking into it further.. apparently a reading of 1 ohms means the plugs are bad?
- anybody have an opinion on accurate diesels GP's and Controller? https://www.accuratediesel.com/shop/61.html

If you are going to use manual control of the glow plugs, use the bosch 80034 plug.

They are a true self limiting plug. slightly slower than the oem plugs, but I have not seen a burned out one yet. I think I have been putting them in stuff for around 10 years now.

Would you recommend the Bosch GPs for the stock controller set up? I'm not planning on switching to a manual setup.

I have used the stock 6.9 controller with the 80034 plug and it worked ok. Cycle time is a little on the short side for these plugs, but have been working fine on healthy engines.

And to be clear, the bosch plug for the 6.9 or 7.3 application is no good. The 80034 is actually for the 6.2 and 6.5

I’m dealing with counterfeit ZD9 plugs right now. One tell tale is the packaging is slightly different then genuine OEM. I notice some of your bags are different, that make me suspect. The fakes I have also are 10mm vs 3/8” hex. The fakes ohm at .9 cold but immediately go over 2.5, which puts the controller into a short cycle. I beat my head against the wall for days until I figured this out.

That's crazy there are counterfeit ZD9s. One thing that I've run into with glow plugs are battery terminal connections and wiring - not sure if that's relevant here however

Yep, I learned the hard way that the $50/sets on eBay aren’t the same as the $75 sets at the auto parts stores... now I’m working on a refund. If you search on YouTube, you’ll find videos explaining how to spot fakes. They are very hard to tell apart from genuine OEM.

I’m learning a lot... if your going to buy fake ZD-9s, you might as well buy in bulk from the source:

Here is a video that I have posted before. This guy was a tech in a Ford garage (he now owns his own shop, in the Chicago area I believe)

He talks about Plugs and Coil packs for the 5.4 Gasser... but the packaging stuff all still applies. He goes really in depth of what to look for..... and the surprising thing is, on a couple things you would think are from Ford, are actually the fake....
