Just acquired an 88 F250 with a 93 body. (Previous owner could not find enough 88 body parts) The engine is a 7.3 IDI with 143K original miles. My previous horse hauler was a 350 powerstroke(2001) with 356K and cracked frame. Being that I am a lone cowgirl/camping trailrider, I depend on getting as much info as I can to be able to haul my rig and horse safely. What can I expect from this 7.3 IDI ? Heck< I think this truck is older than my mechanic!!!! Only had her for a week, now getting it adapted to haul the gooseneck trailer....main thing I noticed is she is loud and feels like a horse chomping at the bit. Previous owner gave me all the service records and restoration info...quite a bundle but very well maintained. He did not use it like I am going to..it was more of a showpiece/club thing.
So if any of you have pros and cons, things to watch for and can answer questions as they pop in my head...I would greatly appreciate it!
Happy Trails

You didn't mention whether or not it has a turbo. It will do the job without one, but it won't do it quickly. A turbo would be a good upgrade if you don't currently have one.

@Haulinhorse these trucks are great haulers they handle well and are very reliable the only downside compared to your 01 it will feel a little slow and doggish but if you plan on hauling a lot of weight say 4 or more horses in the hills I'd look into getting a turbo if it dosent have one already . I use my 86 to pull everything and after a few years I'm just used to the slower pace of pulling with it
