I wouldn't think that both tanks would fail at exactly the same time, but stranger things have happened I suppose. When it first started I assumed that it had to be a tank problem, but once I switched tanks and the problem kept happening I figured it had to be something else.
I'll check for water in the fuel tomorrow. I haven't had time to work on it because we're trying to get our farm ready to list for sale. I'm hoping to find a couple of hours this week to work on the old girl. I need to have it up and running tip top asap so I can use it to haul a load 600 miles...
Would a bad lift pump also cause blue smoke? My truck recently started smoking and it's never done so in the past, it still runs pretty well, and I'm now thinking with about 80% certainty that it's going to end up being the lift pump, but will do some tests before putting in a new one. I would...
I'll try that rubber hose idea, but I'm pretty certain it's going to be the lift pump. As for the air intrusion you mentioned it wouldn't buck, but when the light comes on it starts bucking and surging right before it dies. I've hit the shrader valve and have heard no air come out. That said I'm...
Steve,
Ok that makes sense I'll give that a shot, thanks for the explanation. I'm not sure what the olives are, but I haven't had any fuel lines loose on the truck in a couple of years. The only time I had any fuel lines loose was when I changed out the little O rings because I had a bit of a...
The filter light comes on, and then in a couple of minutes it starts bucking and then dies, and won't restart until I change the filter out. So do you mean to bypass the filter with the feed and return lines? I guess that would tell me if it's indeed the filter correct? If it ran fine when doing...
I have been getting fuel from the same small gas station, so there is a chance that the fuel is indeed the problem. As for the tank selector switch I don't think that's the problem because it started giving me the filter problems without me ever switching the tanks. In fact I hardly ever switch...
Ok I'll try that, and thank you very much. I have looked pretty close at all the filters I've pulled out and they looked clean. I also notice when I'm pushing the truck kind of harder it seems to want to eat the filters fast, or maybe like you say it's not getting enough lift from the lift pump...
The last few months my truck is going through filters every 20-50 miles. I can't drive the truck for fear of it dying and needing to install a new filter on the side of the highway. I've pulled fuel out of the tank and it looks clear, and I've drained the filters into a clear glass and it...
I have tried the dealership, they no longer make the harness. And I need four wheel drive so it's not worth putting in a harness that will not work with my truck.
I wish that would work, but I know it needs or at least I have been told it needs to be from a 4x4. I would love to find one for that price. I really appreciate the offer that's very nice. This place rocks.
Are you enjoying the engine in the truck? I have the IDI in my 1990 F350 and am considering going to the Cummins I have a powerstroke but am thinking of selling it and purchasing a 6bt for a much more simple engine and great tune ability.
Rich
That is a very nice offer, If I can't find a harness I will take you up on the fix and pay you whatever you think is fare. I love this site it's nice to have a bunch of like minded folks that want to help each other. I will not name sites but I posted this same thread on a really large...
