Post Head Gasket, Sludgy Oil, Smoke through CDR, White Exaust

Does not smell like coolant, but the engine has mostly water in it right now. When I run the engine with the air filter off I can see quite a bit of "smoke" billowing right out of the CDR right into the intake. I'm thinking that's got to be the source of the problem, no? I'll drop the Y...

Post Head Gasket, Sludgy Oil, Smoke through CDR, White Exaust

Well it's nice to know that you think I'm on the right track. The problem with a nice long drive is right now the truck is not inspected (New York) and you can see me coming from like 1/4 mile away. We're talking some serious amounts of white smoke. Hard to be subtle.

Post Head Gasket, Sludgy Oil, Smoke through CDR, White Exaust

Hi Everyone, I haven't posted in a while (or worked on my Van in a while), but now I'm back on it. Not sure why I haven't gotten rid of it yet, I just like that thing for some reason. I will try to keep this concise. Basically I'm looking for confirmation from maybe a few of you that I...

    Totally Stumped

NEW DATA!!! So to run the test that blackdawg suggested was not trivial for one major reason...I don't own any gasoline powered cars. Diesel is just fundamentally superior, no? So after work today I hired someone with a gasoline powered car to come over and allow me to attach a sump pump...

blackdawg...redirecting the exhaust from another car into my intake is bordering on brilliant. I'm going to try that this weekend. I will feel so much better about taking the engine out if i can just have some consistent evidence. 79 jasper...IR thermometer is on the list also. i can...

    Totally Stumped

A friend just asked me if it's possible that cylinder isn't firing and maybe that's why the combustion leak tester is reading negative. I said no way, it would sound really obvious if it had dropped a cylinder... ...now secretly i'm considering whether or not that's a possibility. It bugs...

    Totally Stumped

Sorry for the silence. I updated my email address in my settings and I got booted from the forum, so I couldn't reply. Mike just fixed it for me. Alright, so basically what you guys are saying is this is a HG or cavitation no matter which way I look at it. What bugs me is that my diligence...

    Totally Stumped

Thanks so much for the replies. When I had the thermostat housing off, I did look at the bleeder ball. I read that in another thread. It took me a little while, but I got that little ball in there free by dripping a little bit of mineral spirits into the port and using my compressed air...

    Totally Stumped

Hi guys, Been a while since I've been around. Posted this problem earlier this year, but didn't get any responses. Figured I'd give it another shot since I'm back under the hood. I'll try and keep it short: Bubbles in the coolant overflow reservoir. Put my air compressor to the...

    Air in coolant

Hi guys, I haven't been around for quite a while now. Not sure if any of you guys will remember me. I basically learned how to work on engines from this forum though, primarily was posting like 3-5 years ago. Anyway, what's good is that my van, after having rebuilt the thing, has been...

    Engine Swap

Actually I take it back, I think it is an 86 F350. My friends said he thought it was on an F450 frame, but he might not know what he's talking about. Great news! I'll relay the info. Then inevitably I'll get roped into working on this craziness! Jeff

    Engine Swap

My friend has an F450 with a 7.5L gas engine. It has a manual transmission (not sure which one, I actually haven't taken a look at it yet) would this be the ZF5? Is it possible for us to put a 7.3 idi in it and just change the bell housing or do we need a new transmission also? Also, sorry...

    Heating WMO

I have the same set up as what Jred just described. I used copper since I got it for free. Haven't had problems yet. Hopefully I won't. I got some weld-on NPT tank fittings and threaded a npt to compression fitting right on there. So there's some 5/8" copper tubing that makes a few loops...
