Think I found my fuel starvation issue...

Pretty sure this was why Frank the Tank wouldn’t start. I’m done with lift pumps. Time to go electric.

Thoughts as to what may have caused this rather epic failure?

Was the bolted half on the truck loose? If so, that might have had something to do with it - the whole pump moving up and down as it cycled, putting moving stresses on it until it finally broke;

Any chance this engine was from a wrecker truck? May have been rolled around in the back of a truck too. It does look like the case was broken for some time and constant spring action internally it finally finished itself off.

I think so too. Good eye. the bolt holes look elongated like it had been rocking.

Agree, good eye. The bolts were finger tight. It was a disaster long in the making.

The blocking plate is plenty tight and the new electric pump is fantastic.
