I think BTS has some. Off the top of my head, I can't remember the other couple companies.

I know it’s hard to grasp but the e4od with a semi built hard parts and good converter will be much stronger than a zf5, I’ve seen so many zf5’s with bearing noise and gear issues behind na diesels. But the e4od and 4r100 is well proven at the strip, off road, and sled pulling. Don’t get me wrong the zf5 is a good trans but not in the same ballpark as a well setup e4od

Well I can only disagree with you there. My zf5 has over 250k on it and has never been open, I guarantee your e40d doesn’t have that kinda record. I’ve had three running e40ds for sale at core price for months and haven’t gotten a single hit, zf5s I sell the same week I receive them. I have what I like and you have what you like no sense in argueing about this anymore

I'll take an e4 at core price if it's a 4x lol.

Both tranny's certainly have their virtue. I'll challenge anyone willing to tell me a zf is the only way to go halfway up the hill on my property.

Anyone who says a standard works as good and as usably off road in adverse scenarios has never been in an adverse off road scenario. Having three dually wheels off the ground and worrying about a clutch is not my cup of tea when my house is what would stop my truck rolling over and over after 1/2 mile down the steep hill.

As for power/longevity, realistically an idi even near max current Dyno numbers won't kill a bts e4 or a zf with hard parts if you drive right.

A bad driver can kill any transmission no matter how much it costs.

A good driver can make a scrapyard tranny live behind 800 hp.

And surely we all know that our own individual experience with a particular issue is far from making that the norm. That would be like saying since it's hot near me it must be hot everywhere.....

My personal opinion- depends on what truck. I want a zf if I'm on road towing heavy alot (my service truck)and I like shifting gears, but when I'm wheeling the dually or working hard off road ,e4od all the way. I like its characteristics on road as well.

To the op though, if you don't find any lights loose or blown, you could try the lockup switch, and see if it still misbehaves. If you run it in manual ovveride and it still locks, you know the problem is not your fipl at least

358k miles out of my last e4od, still worked perfect when I sold it in the 4x4 centurion. Towed my toyhauler all year long.

Interesting that it was the cause. When mine went, it just wouldn't go past second gear.....glad it took care of your problem

I had a hint it was that because I noticed it would mainly do it at a certain throttle positions so made me believe the sensor had a bad spot. I’ll post a video to show what it was doing. The old sensor was the black one and looks like the previous owner messed with it because it had flat head screws in it all mangled. The replacement was the grey one

What's this,another E40D thread hijacked by manual shifting ZF5 guys?......So surprising.:D

They (FIPL/TPS) should be replaced every 50k miles anyway, because they ware.

Tell me how many of the 17,000 + members that have an IDI with so much HP and Torque that an E4OD can't handle even without modifications, talking about a well maintained one. Did any of you ZF guys check your Left leg measurements against your Right leg.;Poke

Y’all are still going on about this? Everyone has a preference with what they like. Let’s leave it at that.
