Need Advice on Price

Hey Guys
I have not posted in a long, long time but have been checking the threads at least once a month. Unfortunately it has come to the point where i need to sell my truck, i moved out of state and do not want to pay for transport and have no space at my new place. I need advice on fair rate, the truck is in kentucky, 94 f250 e40d, 4x4, ~184k. KBB has it at 4800 on the low end. The only thing this truck has going for it is it runs and drives and has a rebuilt trans a couple years back. It was my daily driver until 8 months ago but has been started and driven around the block at least once a month. The bad: bent in front bumber, bent hood, 1 headlight broke, dash lights out, very loose gear select, loose steering, 4x4 transfer case not working, exhaust rusted out, and dents and dings. Any advice on fair mkt value would be appreciated, i do not just want to off load it, i want something reasonable. I'm sad to see it go, i had plans to rebuild myself but life keeps getting in the way.

KBB is nowhere near $4800. A "Very good" PSD is about that. You describe a "good" (not "very good") truck. A "Good" IDI is $2700 HIGH end; a "good" IDI-T is $3800 HIGH end. But that tells you something about KBB; all other things being equal, a turbo IDI is not worth anywhere near $1000 more than its NA counterpart. Maybe $500.

Which cab? XL or XLT? Turbo or NA?

Thanks for the quick reply, i knew was forgetting to add something in the description, it is a turbo and it is XLT. As for pictures i have had time to dig some up, if i was in the same state as the truck i would just take a couple. I see what i can do for picture.

That makes a big difference on price, also, if it's an extended cab, bench or jump seats?

Based off a quick CL scan of your area, Id list it for 3k and take min 2k

its hard to say price with no pics, im legit spit balling numbers for you

A turbo IDI is worth every penny of 1k over N/A IDI.I added used banks kits for $800 range twice and in total over 1k for a few missing parts,misc bolts etc.Worth every penny and that's with doing labor to install it.Buying an turbo idi already without the need to do the work and it's obviously worth 1k over n/a.The difference in performance is night and day.

With that said,the description of the truck put the truck in "poor condition". There are no exceptions to this.

You can't sell a 4x4 with the 4wd not working and expect full 4wd price.You just can't.Even if it just needs a used $100 t-case and an hour of your time.The truck value without this working alone has dropped $800-1,200
The other things hurt as well.Next in line is the rusted out exhaust,the followed by sloppy steering.
The dings and dents show it's a 20+ yr old truck but the broken headlight,dash lights blown,very sloppy gear selector shows the truck has been neglected and will make everyone who looks the truck over,wonder what else has been so neglected and everyone will just presume all the fluids are overdue and there are probably leaky seals as well.
Based on the description,without pics,this would be a truck I simply pass on,regardless of price.Sorry!

She's "probably" a $2,000 truck.I would recommend listing her for $2,500 and take anything close to 2k.
If your in a bind and a young feller comes along looking for his first truck and you need to unload it because it's not worth taking it with you,then letting it go to a good home for $1,500 probably wouldn't be the end of the world either.

Fix the truck so it's 4wd works issue free and add at the very least $500 to these prices.

I saw this ad and that's why i asked bc one reference point does not really mean anything. I am really kicking myself for not taking pictures before i left, but selling wasnt crossing my mind. Im hoping a buddy of mine can take a couple pics For me, if not I'll be in Lexington at end of July. Attached is not th best picture (the only one I have on hand) and doesnt show the bent hood, bumber, missing headlight. My truck is at least I color, but his looks cleaner. As for your question jwalterus, it is an extended cab with a folding bench sear, all black truck with red cloth interior.

Fordf250hdxlt, i completely agree with your points, but fluids is one thing i never skipped. I just never had enought time, money, or the right tools, to get stuff done. When I had money to improve and/or maintain, past keeping running and doing what I needed, fate would kick me in the face. guys I really appreciate the input but I am starting to see a trend in price, when I get pictures I will post just to show and see if you feel your guts are right.

I hear ya but speaking as the view of the buyer.Your reasons are very good for the neglect but she's been neglected regardless ya know? So it's a little bit better in the pic than I expected but that said,the super cab is rusting out from the inside which is common and the front fender is rusted out.That would need to be patched or replaced to pass safety inspection here.
She is what she is.Keep in mind when you sell her,that she's still (possibly) in good enough shape where someone gives her a little love and fixes her up a bit,or hey,even if they don't.Even if they buy it to run it into the ground and get all they can out of it for a year or two,at least either way someone can get more use out of it.So even if you don't get "real money" for it at this point (which I don't think you can) there is still a good feeling to be had in knowing that someone will get to appreciate her for a while still.

A parts truck to most "normal" people. Of course anyone on this board is not a "normal" person and only a person who knows these trucks or a kid that thinks he wants a cheap diesel is going to give you anything for it.

I recently paid $1K for a 88 F-250 extended cab 5-speed with a turbo(!) that ran and drove... but that's about it. Transfer case was shot(it came with a replacement), and the interior and exterior was a bit rough. Tires were bald as well, and it has the usual glow plug/IP neglect making it really hard to start.

I thought that was a decent value, and I drove two hours to get it.

About 5 years i bought a '91 f250 single cab flatbed 4x4 at auction for $2,500

Tranny was shot
Mouse infestation
Didnt know till drive home

Fixed up n sold for $3k two years later

Id say the $2k wouldnt be terrible.

It all depends on your location also. Some places are way cheap
