throw out bearing or the pocket bearing? Why would the throw out bearing have anything to do with it. I put it back together after I opened it up just to make sure I could since lots of people say you can't work on a zf5 without the special jig. I'm with the people that say it is a little tedious but can be done with a ratchet strap. I should do it myself before I spend more time trying to get around it than it would take to do it
the TOB is for my personal education. I have a 6bt project of my own that the previous owner was having trouble with the OEM ford TOB being happy working on the dodge pressure plate. I got a flat faced TOB to see if it was a better match. that is all.

thank you! mime is unknown other than I know it's oem dodge pressure plate with a ZF disc on the inside and a oem 6bt flywheel. ford/ZF has curved diaphragm fingers and dodge has the straight diaphram fingers. I got a flat faced TOB hoping it will help compatibility

i know this gets asked from time to time but most threads I find are either old or the result is not good. Anybody have a source for good zf5s. Midwest sounds good on their web sight but their reviews aren't great. Seems like every reman story I hear takes a couple tries before you get a good one which is extremely careless. I'm in Northern California and would like to find one that has a easy core exchange. The fresh reman in my truck welded the pocket bearing so that one was done wrong. Lkq I think is what I was told built that one. Thanks

I used manual transmission warehouse they are off north gate off hwy 80 in Sacramento. They were friendly and very reasonable.

Thank you for that recommendation. Did you get a full rebuild or just a certain thing fixed there?

I had them combine two trannies I had, they used parts from both to build up one good one. Then they measured all the clearances and put it back together. Luckily I didn't need any new parts. Kept the cost then. I think he said a full rebuild with new everything is around $1200. ???

Anyway was a very helpful and friendly place. And I'll be back next time. They had at least 4-5 zf5's they were rebuilding that I saw.

I just picked up my zf5 from the tranny guy on Friday. http://www.elkgrovegear.com/
He does a ton of zf5’s and zf6’s, he even keeps the syncro rings I’m stock. Free inspection and a 1 year, unlimited mile warranty. He found me a new case because mine had cracked, and did a reseal and new synchros for $700. It would’ve been $400 if I didn’t get the case. Right next to Cordova truck off of happy lane in rancho Cordova. It backs up to
Mather airfield. He does it right, I will always bring him my stuff.
