remote mounted batteries..whos got em'?

i have no opinion with my inexperience.
ive had g31's but thats about the biggest ive ever messed with.
its just something im looking at and been asking people with experience.
usually im way ahead on research, but not this time and i dont wanna jump the gun

I have looked at a medium duty battery box. The same box truck I got my dt360 from and there was now way it was fitting under the truck. It was up for grabs but far to large and it opened upward which would have been up into my bed.

I am still interested in moving my batteries, I just figured I would probably weld up a angle iron cage or something.

I am still interested in moving my batteries, I just figured I would probably weld up a angle iron cage or something.

im gonna install mine on the pass side outside frame rail.
and do some angle as well.
had a thought about using a old scissor jack to raise and lower the tray.
guess if i go with 2 g31's they can be lifted into place.

I like the idea of a scissor jack. Hurry up and get something done so I can copy it! LOL

Right on the frame rail can keep your cables super short to. Just might need a small plastic shield for rain and snow. Well I would need one for snow.

I have two 8D batteries in my 40 ft diesel pusher [24 volt system].. I can tell you they are a ***** to handle by yourself to maneuver into the battery box position for the pair. It is a two man job.

Previous 3 40 ft diesel pushers used 4 Group 31 batteries and they were much more manageable. Also.. cost wise.. the 31's vs 8D's , the 31's win every time.

Something to be considered.. THEFT .. tweakers now make a career of stealing batteries, both for cash scrap value.. and they use the acid to make ****.. [lovely huh]..
So.. if you frame mount them.. exposed.. most truckers here are now building lockdown cages to go around the batteries..

As far as the vibration issue goes, 4D and 8D batteries normally reside in off road equipment such as a D-8 Cat dozer. Ever drive a dozer over hard ground or rocky ground?

But in reality group 31's are the way to go. Universal battery for every mid to full size commercial truck and most equipment today. 2 group 31 is more than 1 4D and cheaper.

Group 31: made for commercial use. Much price competition. Group 27f (pre 87) and group 65 are automotive and not as price competitive or rugged.

Deka is the best brand in my opinion.

Get quality batteries and you're good to go, have been running the set in my truck since the day I bought it, either a piece of 1.6 in the factory trays or trim the edge off the rad side of the trays and they fit nice ;Sweet

had to use a bungee cord to hold em tho.

You better be posting how you do this so I can steal (ahem, "use") your idea LOL
I've cheated, my cables are zip-tied to the fender and rad support to keep the batteries from shifting much

Same here for a '91. Except I didn't bother with the bungee. :)

I did explore the option of using the long skinny batteries that some older cars had,
but could not find any with a heavy construction. Was going to mount them in the
space between the tool box and the cab.

the g31's were so tight in the stock trays i was worried about them arcing on the hood, i do not drive my rigs nice lol

Heh. Neither do I (drive nice).

Put the (+) terminals to the inside. The battery has nowhere to go. :)
Haven't had any problems in 3 years.
