Maybe ifrythings will at some time chime in, or PM him to add to this thread. His last post was 7/8/15 so he's still around. His thread about engine swap did not have a solution as to what he did if anything about the flexplate/flywheel, it just ended.

Good luck finding a flex plate for the turbo engine, I couldn't find one even after having a few line ups that fell through. I tried the dealer a while ago and if they weren't discontinued it would be a 750 dollar piece of tin...

What I ended up doing was getting my engine balance after tear down number 3 from cavitation :( ugh. What I did was bring the rotating assembly in with the turbo flywheel and got that balanced, then they balanced the flex plate after.

Don't do what I was going to do and bring in a flywheel and get them to match the balance to the flex plate, the flywheel I had ended up being incorrectly balanced even though it ran smooth from what I could tell, the whole rotating assembly was out over 150g ....

Anyways your best bet is getting the proper flex plate for your engine as the only other option is to get it balanced which isn't a great option of a fully assembled engine. If you do get it balanced use the 6.9 cast flex plate, then if you have issues with it you can change the ring gear or the thin plate and not have to look for another rare flex plate.

Ifrythings if you don't mind me asking could you Pm me the places you found them? A Local shop has one but I didn't pick it up with in like 3 days so they shipped it back and now are trying to make me pay for shipping and a fee. But if it isn't a crazy amount more I may just buy it. It seems impossible to find these stupid things haha

A buddy of mine works at a machine shop and they do some balancing. So I'm gonna see how much they would charge. My engine isn't in yet it's still on the stand. So I'm gonna see what they can do.

Thank you guys a ton for all the help!

Ford86.. Be sure to use some thread sealant on those crank bolts because they enter the oily side of the crank. They are drilled all the way thru the flange. Oil WILL leak past the tight bolt threads. The torque is 47 lbs.

Icanfixitall blue lock tight should do the trick right?

Also I have good and bad news. I called ford and they told me that the part is discontinued. But they were able to give me that part number so I could call around. The part # is F3TZ6375A. Than I did some research and found that dorman makes a replacement flex plate. So I called my local dorman dealer (autozone) and they have one in another store. So i have it shipped to the closest store to me and I'm gonna cross it with the spacer I have to make sure it's the right one. Dormans flex plate is a replacement for that part number. I'm really hoping that it's the right one! Ford also said that the flex plate would be 700$ if ford still had it. Autozone said 75$. i told the guy on the phone I needed a 93 so he couldn't get it confused with a powerstroke as if I told him I needed a 94. He said the computer gave him the option for either diesel or turbo diesel. So it sounds like it's the right one to me. I'll keep you guys updated as to if its the right one

I never found new ones, there was a member that had a broken one I was trying to get to find out where they put the weight, how heavy it was and anything else that was changed, and the other one was from another member that I was going to do a trade with but that fell threw also.

As for balancing, you have to tear down the whole engine for them to do that so that's going to cost you a few hundred in gaskets at least.

Good luck autozone, I'm betting you'll get a non turbo flex plate from them, I had no luck finding anyone that made an aftermarket version.

If you search autozone.....it is the same part number for a 93 model vin M as a 1989 NA diesel truck. Probably won't be any different than any other one. Visually, they look very close, just the weight is in a different spot...

With this Ford PN. F3TZ6375A.

You get this, 6375
Ford Flywheel/Flexplate
7.3L; IDI turbo w/E4OD.
$702.87
Looks to me why the price is that high because you get the CastIron flywheel, ring gear, 1" spacer, TC flexplate and bolt backup ring.

If this is what you already have, which Ford says is a cast iron Flywheel, thats why the cost is so high, they just don't use them anymore IIRC. The C6 takes a different Flexplate for the TC to hook up. The C6 flexplate is a smaller bolt circle IIRC than the E4OD TC.

To clock the Flywheel for balance (which I have never done), I've always marked crank and FW or FP) but it would occure to me that the (weight if any) or the drilled balance holes would have to be inline with #1 cyl at TDC .

Personally I don't know why you can't use the flywheel you have, that engine don't know whether it's a C6 or a E4OD.
If you need a C6 flexplate, I have one. For only $702 :D LOL AFAIK they are obsolete also.

The turbo flexplate is just a stamped steel plate with the 1" thick spacer. The c6 used the cast iron flexplate with a stamped steel plate bolted to it using the crank to flexplate bolts. The torque converter for the c6 and E4OD are the same bolting pattern and spacing and size, if you had a non turbo 7.3 you could swap them all day with no issue.

The bolt pattern on the crank is a 10 hole pattern with one hole not drilled out used as an alignment point, you can't put the flywheel or flexplate on wrong with the pattern they used. Also these engines are externally balanced so the correct flywheel/flexplate is crucial.

Ford86, if the part number on the flexplate is listed for an 89 like cpdenton mentioned, it will be the wrong part, remember that part houses are very stupid when it comes to 1 year changes in vehicles and they clump them to other years say that they are all the same.

I got the flex plate anyways cause I figured I can just return it. Well I matched it up to the spacer I have which fits directly to my crank. The spacer is actually smaller than the bolts on the flex plate I got. So the flex plate I got is now useless. But I will post the link to the one I found that claim they make one. http://www.rockauto.com/catalog/moreinfo.php?pk=972518 but the flex plate I got fits what you guys are describing as a stamped steel plate with a 1" gear welded on. Seems like I've bitten more then I can chew. Also I stil have my c6 flex plate but thanks anyways!

That dorman pic is a standard trans flywheel. So far you have not posted anything about calling BTS... Why???:dunno I explained very well they have what you want. But you will do as you please thats showing very well so far. So this is my last attempt to help you. BTS has both the spacer and the steel flex plate with the gear welded to it. Your heavy cast iron wheel has no spacer because it is the reason for a spacer when you use the thin plate with the gear welded to it. Best of luck from here on out.

I thought that I stated I have called them twice with no answer and have emailed them. I'm waiting on a reply and I have been calling them everyday since you said so. I have been trying everything. I'm sorry that I didn't say anything about it. But thank you for you're advice that I have been taking..

Glad you got in touch with someone who realizes there is a different flexplate for a factory turbo, AND can get you that part.

Good luck, and keep us posted on how things are going with your swap.
