The only way to dim down the cobalts to an acceptable level is to dim them all the way, then you cant see your factory gauges

To reduce the brightness of the cobalt (LED backlight) gauges relative to the factory gauges, I think all one has to do is add a resistor in series to the lamp wire going to the cobalt gauges.

I replaced all of the incandesants in both my vettes with LEDS and I love em. Check out Superbrighte led`s.com
I just got autometer sport comps with electrical senders for oil pressure, water temp, and pyro. I also got the autometer a pillar pod, though people have said the glowshift pod works fine if you use a heat gun and work it a bit. I'll search for the link of who I bought mine from but it was signifcantly cheaper than other sites. Someone on here recommended them.

not trying to hijack, but how much of a job is it to put in a set of gauges? Does the factory E4OD have a place where you can put the temp probe?
I know that if i put them in i would not regret it since it is showing me my trucks vitals. just don't wanna spend the money on that kind of stuff right now with my truck only getting mabey 10 mpg and $4.10/gallon

I just spent about 3 hours this am installing my gauges on a gauge pod. I already "fitted" and painted the pod to the piller trim last week(about 30 min).
I hooked up a Pyro and boost gauge. I made a complete harness, taped and wire loom. I then tapped a 10amp fuse for power for the pyro. Piggy backed the light switch for the gauge illumination. Drilled and tapped a hole in the driver side manifold. Drilled and tapped the intake for the boost.

Yes, there is a test port on the drivers side of the trans. Its a 1/8 npt plug.

It is pretty simple
A mechanical temp gauge has 2 wire for illumination(+/-), and it will have a thermo coupler and 2 power wires.
For an electric gauge, again 2 wire for illumination, 2 power wires, and 1 wire for your sending unit

Has anyone cut up their factory gauges to fit mini guages in the original location? I may try this on junkyard gauges after the July meet.

Seems to work fine for me for oil pressure and mechanical temp. If it breaks it breaks, turn off engine, plug it, go home and fix it. Pay daughter 10 bucks to clean up oil. Problem solved.

The last time I had capillary tube break, it sprayed oil all over my headers. Then the oil caught fire. I thought i was going to lose my car

a capillary tube is usually filled with some sort of freon or some other liquid that will expand and contract with the temp changes, a mechanical oil pressure gauge is fine with me I was just concerned with the capillary tube chafing and breaking
