A pasture fencer works when attached to the body. Don't ask how I know.
With the dented truck I ride I don't get these problems, but I also made sure to put locking fuel caps on, and have a sliding bar in the doors and an extra lock on the hood. I learned these tips from when I was in college and had my 73 Ford messed with, they even tried breaking off my locking gas cap. Since they didn't succeed, I knew they were dumb punks since they didn't even manage that, but I took the welder and made a few special improvements in order to save things a little.
And considering that most tree hugger vehicles get crap mileage, what the hell do they have to cast stones at? My beast is a quarter century old and gets better mileage than some of their cars SHOULD be getting! Consider the Subaru awds, the Nissan Exterras (the X drives a 2002, and all she gets is about 14mpg when I was pushing 21 mpg out of my 89 GMC 4wd with 5.7 auto, and a loaded lock box in back) and all those cute little "crossover" jobs that suck with mileage.
