How much of TC-W3 would you add to diesel?

I think TC-W3, bought by the gallon at Walmart (around $12/gallon) would be the best option, money wise speaking, for an additive to diesel. There are several ratios given in a table for 2 cycle engines in the container's label. Which ratio do you guys consider will be good? I just want to compensate for the lubricity lost in the ultra-low sulphur process, to avoid problems with the IP.
Thanks,
Burt.

If 1 ounce/gallon is the best ratio then Marvel Mystery Oil is the best option. They recommend 4 onces per gallon of fuel. It's $4 the bottle of 32 ounces. Both my trucks have 33 gallons capacity (15 plus 18) that's 16 ounces MMO, half a bottle, $2 every fill up. With TC-W3 it's $12 a gallon, at 1 ounce/gallon it will give me 4 fill ups that's $3 worth of additive each.
Now, I don't know which one is better in performance. I've been using the MMO for a year and I noticed when I started using it that it quiets the engine a little bit, compare to adding nothing. Some time before the low sulphur diesel had some lubricity, now it has almost nothing since turned into ultra-low sulphur.
The TC-W3 is an ashless oil, I don't know if MMO is leaving some burnt residue that's adding to the oil deterioration. I've noticed that if I wait to 5000 miles to change the oil, by that time the oil is really black ink and has very little viscocity. Even with the correct level is shows less pressure in the gauge (I know that gauge is a joke) but it shows the difference between new oil and old oil at the same level. Usually with fresh oil, after a change, the needle reaches almost the N. When oil is almost 5000 (even after topping off half a quart a couple of times to keep it at the level) the pressure has dropped almost to the line of the NORMAL range.
Is this something "normal" because is old oil?
Thanks,
Burt.

Burtcheca- You might want to read this again, or the first time if you haven't seen it yet- Good stuff- Marvel Mystery Oil ain't even in the top 10.

The Research Laboratory mixed the proper ratio of each “bottled fluid” into a separate container containing the baseline fuel. The data, therefore, is meaningful because every additive is tested in the same way using the same fuel. A side-by-side comparison of the effectiveness of each additive is now obtainable.

THE RESULTS:

These results are listed in the order of performance in the HFRR test. The baseline fuel used in every test started at an HFRR score of 636. The score shown is the tested HFRR score of the baseline fuel/additive blend.
Also included is the wear scar improvement provided by the additive as well as other claimed benefits of the additive. Each additive is also categorized as a Multi-purpose additive, Multi-purpose + anti-gel, Lubricity only, non-conventional, or as an additive capable of treating both gasoline and diesel fuel.
As a convenience to the reader there is also information on price per treated tank of diesel fuel (using a 26 gallon tank), and dosage per 26 gallon tank provided as “ounces of additive per 26 gallon tank”.

In Order Of Performance:

1) 2% REG SoyPower biodiesel

CONCLUSIONS:

Products 1 through 4 were able to improve the unadditized fuel to an HFRR score of 460 or better. This meets the most strict requirements requested by the Engine Manufacturers Association.
Products 1 through 9 were able to improve the unadditized fuel to an HFRR score of 520 or better, meeting the U.S. diesel fuel requirements for maximum wear scar in a commercially available diesel fuel.
Products 16 through 19 were found to cause the fuel/additive blend to perform worse than the baseline fuel. The cause for this is speculative. This is not unprecedented in HFRR testing and can be caused by alcohol or other components in the additives. Further investigation into the possibilities behind these poor results will investigated.
Any additive testing within +/- 20 microns of the baseline fuel could be considered to have no significant change. The repeatability of this test allows for a +/- 20 micron variability to be considered insignificant.

Wow! Thanks a lot Biofarmer93.

Did you typed all these results? Man, you sure did your homework!

I appreciate very much your time and effort to share all this information.
The 6 first products I don't know if they are available in our area (Suwannee County, Fl.) but TC-W3 is available and the ratio is a little more than 1/2 ounce/gallon. That will make it better than MMO in price and performance as these tests show.

From farmer to farmer, thanks.
Burt, a Florida *******.

Wish I could take credit for it, but no. I went to the tech library we have here on OB and copy & pasted it. I know that this bit of info really opened my eyes to a few things and I figured it would sorta put things in perspective for you too.

I guess everyone has their preferred additive. I had pretty good results this past week with DieselKleen (#10 on list) at about 2x the normal ratio, it really helped to clean up my sticky IP guts after my W/S crapped its pants. Now I'm adding it to the home-made B90 I'm running, it helps alot with cold starts (esp. since I have no gp's at the moment). I think that any additive is better than none.

Agreed that Diesel Kleen is a good additive for OCCASSIONAL cleaning of injectors.

However, for day to day lubrication and protection of the injector-pump, it is not a good idea.

Same said so far as Marvel Mystery Oil is concerned; it will clean, but it does nothing whatsoever for lubing. ( I do however hoard those nice tough long-neck bottles for pre-measuring my TC-W3 two-cycle oil in )

To be of much benefit, fuel lubrication supplement MUST be added at EVERY fill-up; not just once in a while.

I buy the TC-W3 in gallon jugs, Walmart brand, and use the wife's measuring-cup to pre-measure various amounts into the long-neck MMO bottles.

HEET bottles are also a good choice = long neck.

After pouring X-ounces of TC-W3 into each MMO bottle, I top them off with clean diesel and give them a shake.

Pure TC-W3 pours like syrup; the diesel thins it and aids pouring. :)

Note that in BioFarmer 93's listing above that Walmart TC-W3 is listed at #7.

Also note, however, that it was tested at a ratio of 200:1, NOT the more accepted ratio of 128:1

128-ounces = 1-gallon

1-ounce of TC-W3 per gallon of fuel = 128:1

I wish we had some way of re-figuring the results by using the 128:1 ratio; I bet the two-cycle oil would be even higher on the list. :)

I put 3 onces per 5 gallon of diesel. Thats about the same the test used. I just drove 400 miles coming to see my family in Miami. It did 15 MPG, used 26 gallons to get here. ;Sweet.

One can only imagine that all but the worst homebrew biodiesel would also be a great fuel additive or replacement. When my truck starts to complain a bit, I'll occasionally give it some PS diesel kleen to hopefully get rid of any gunk from the bio.
