How do I remove my tailgate?

Yeah, it's time. I'm thinking of replacing mine either with a bed cargo net or finding a nice used one in the junkyard. I'm tired of messing with the current one, tried new latches, plastic thingamajigs...it just sucks. I've never taken one off though so I'm no quite sure what all is involved. Thanks.

not much, disconnect the cables or hinges at the side then tilt it about halfway down. when it is about halfway down you pull outward and the passenger side hinge if i remember right will lift right out. after that you can slide the drivers side hinge over and off.

i used to pull the tailgate off my truck all the time and use it as a ramp for my motorcycle.

might want to bring a friend if you don't want to scratch the paint.

Like Jared said, it's not difficult. It is a bit heavier than you might think. They are so easy to remove that they are easily stolen. Some folks use a tailgate lock to keep that from happening.

Be careful driving with the tailgate down. I've them come off before. The last time was a few years ago when I lived in Toledo. The roads there are rough at best. A guy was driving with the tailgate down on a new Dodge Ram. He hit one of the many potholes in town at an intersection and the tailgate fell off in the street. It was ruined to say the least.

LMAO now, but what if that happens right in front of you and your truck suddenly grows a grillegate? ;p

If you don't remove your tailgate very often, a simple way to make it harder to steal is use a worn(rad hose) clap around the passenger side hinge. It's not un-beatable, but may slow a thief down enough to make them move onto an easier target.
