There's a thread started by ididiesel about some tubular manifolds, AL E chimed in with pics from the IDI powered Chevy he has of the exhaust piping for his turbo; he has a header style system on his truck.

I like where all this is going.

We need to get some numbers for a header swap for turbo applications.

Yeah. Now here's another question, If headers help exhaust scavenging, wouldn't they be great for a non-turbo as well? Maybe have some headers that can be used for both applications?

There was a discussion not too long ago about longtube headers, and someone posted some links for a used set and a listing for new sets. Just have to do a search for it. But the gains were not much. It's that dang camshaft again!
A natural combo should be done just on principle, just to see what she'll do.

What about short tube headers? Less gain, but more easily adapted to an aftermarket turbo application if there is a change? What do you think the headers would run, about 150-200 apiece? cuz that puts the headers and cam about 400-450 for both, and a fairly significant gain in power over stock i'd say. Maybe not quite as good as a turbo, but not everybody can say they've got a non-turbo diesel with a cam and headers.

And with short tube headers in that setup, if you add a turbo you've got a pretty good combo going

I like the way you think. Hot cam, shorty headers that can be adapted to the already available turbo kits. Do the headers in mild steel so they are affordable, coated optional.
A set of 200cc injectors, make sure the pump gets out 200cc's or better, 3800 rpm governor, turbo that can flow 450hp worth of air. And it'll idle dead smooth.

And just for dyoung, a 5000 rpm hi rev combo.;p

:sly:sly I love adriniline rushes:D im going to have to do something cause my new truck only tachs 3300 thats not enough for me, i might put this 7.3 pump i got and see if its set higher, or i might build my own pump;Really or i might blow my motor up who knows:dunno but i will have fun experimenting

Hey buddy! Someone just started a thread about the 6.2 spring, he's got a pic and wanted to know if it was the right one.

May have to do a custom governor pump spring for you, though. 5500-6000 rpms. Hope to God the bottom end holds together.

A key part to all of this high RPMness is a well balanced engine, the tolerances for weight differences between pistons is quite a lot, if memory serves me right its like 14g or something was tolerable. If we are looking for RPMs that should really be cut down so you dont end up with your #4 in someone elses window. But i like where this is going so far, now we just need to find someone with some $$$ who is willing to try it all out.

hey im rebuilding a motor right now i can take measurements and all that im trying to build some good power out of it and a new piston would be in the works if needed now im wondering if a gasser piston would hold up to the higher compression
my plan is to use a stroker crank and a logger cam mentioned before here (good idea) then run a twin inline turbo like the new superduty and a lower compression hitting about 21-1 with both turbos kicked in

i have seen a video of a psd spinning 5000+ so if its possible for them it should be possible for our motors

so does anyone have a spec for how far the valve comes into the cylinder (past the piston)
