Remember this is a torque cam, not a higher rpm cam, I can still hit the governor easy but I it pulls from about 1100rpm up.

Im running a mild 300 EFI (aka the little gas engine that pulls like a diesel) with a cam, headers, ported intakes, hopped up igintion and a 351 throttle body and its a fun truck. id imagine an IDI would be similiar.

I have built literally hundreds of 300 sixes. I have a bunch of tricks if you want a real stump puller. You can bore them to .090 over with 390 pistons, cam, I put a turbo on one once, different map sensor for the comp, bigger injectors and an adjustable fuel pressure reg. The guy used to waste 5.0 mustangs till he threw a rod, needed to be balanced.

It doesnt, as far as I can tell. It has more intake lift for better cylinder filling on na, doesnt really affect top end, I think my turbo restricts the exhaust at top speed, I am going to put a drive pressure gauge on it next week.

Russ you didnt do any runs at the meet did you. i was looking at the results and was hoping to see some numbers. I was wondering if you have ever dynoed your truck i would like to see what your cam did for the power curve.

I wasnt able to make it to the meet.But I am getting it dynoed as soon as the camper comes off.

ameristar what step are you at right now? what do you need to get started?

The cam grinder I know is ready to go, the thing that is needed is mock ups of 6.9s and 7.3s, to do the piston to valve clearances. Since this is an interference motor ( I'm still trying to figure that one out ), lift could be limited somewhat, and lift is what this motor needs so that those big ports could be used to maximum effect. It's sort of like what happened with the Ford Boss 429, Chrysler 426 Hemi and others during the musclecar era, the heads can flow the air, but the cam doesn't tap into the sweet spot of the flow curve of the heads. Every time headers and a hotter cam were added to these engines, these engines broke the 500+hp level easily.

I see IH did the same thing with this engine, and when this engine was designed that probably was the philosophy.

The ultimate solution for the 6.9/7.3 is to reconfigure the piston to allow the valves as much travel as possible, even if it means lowering the compression slightly. I'd rather know I have room for a .600" lift cam and not need it than to need it and not have it.

Springs, you should be able to match up with something from any of the major cam grinders, the rocker arms, I'm not sure.

I can get springs, still planning working on rockers, I need to get the head machine fixed up to use then I can chop away on an old head that was brought to me .
