Is that too high a mark to hit, or do I have to start adding modified pumps and injectors

Them 300s are some of the most reliable engines out there (no offense diesel users). My grandpa's got one with 300,000 some odd miles, and it's still going. The truck's falling apart around it, and it is a pretty fun little motor. But only with a 5 speed.Hmm...a cammed up IDI sounds fun. throw on a set of headers and a little more fuel n it should be a decent runner. I know mine with a little more fuel, and the intake/exhaust free'd up runs pretty decent.
does this torque cam broaden the RPM range at all? maybe with a cam, a different govener spring could be utalized better?
Im running a mild 300 EFI (aka the little gas engine that pulls like a diesel) with a cam, headers, ported intakes, hopped up igintion and a 351 throttle body and its a fun truck. id imagine an IDI would be similiar.
As far as that goes, yeah it's no easy job. While it's in the truck. I'm going to try and piece it all together while my spare motor's on the stand. And I still don't have to worry about tearing into the bottom end yet.just what i said i dont think its impossible but prob a good turbo, intercooler, hot pump and injectors, cam, headstuds, this is not what i would call an "easy job" but def not impossible at all

I understand what you mean, I've been living with low power ever since i've owned the truck, and i've been trying to find out if anybody has had this "magic formula". This cam does seem to be part of it, and I agree with what you're saying. It looks like to me, a good cam, Head studs, a good efficient turbo setup, injectors, and maybe some pump trickery should be able to get 300 at the crank, if the motor was originally around 175-185We are all trying to crack the code on this engine, because most of the time you either say, "ok, I can live with the low power" or "that's it, I'm going to put another engine in this thing ( and it's usually a Cummins )." To the loyalist of IH, it's blasphemy, but at the same time there hasn't been a serious street combo that has held together and delivered the goods. And yes, it gets very expensive after a while. That's why we are looking for the cork in the bottle, and consensus is saying the cam. Russ' cam is the beginning, I am looking into more radical stuff, and that will depend on where pistons and valves meet. It's going to take a little time, but hopefully something will get made that will allow the engine to do 300hp without excessive amounts of boost.
Bigger pumps, injectors, turbos, ported heads, etc. can't do what they are meant to do when the cam timing won't allow it.
