Well tomorrow morning I pick up my new-to-me 1984 F-250 SUPER CAB PICKUP
6.9L V8 FI OHV / 4 WHEEL DRIVE. I drove a number of diesel CUCV's in the military but this will be the first diesel POV I've ever owned.

Picked it up for a song. Needs a bit of work, but is pretty darned solid. Rebuilt engine about 30k on it, rebuilt 4 speed - about a year on it. The interior is pristine, no cracks in the dash if you can believe it! Everything but the reverse lights work.

In any case I'm going to be rebuilding this guy slowly but surely. I'm glad to have found this forum and look forward to participating (mostly learning and asking newb questions).

welcome to the site!
It would make both yours and our lives easier by taking few minutes to go through the "user CP" button at the top of the forum and take a few minutes to fill out some info. This will help anyone who answers your questions on the particulars on your truck. Also, where you live is a good thing to post too. There may be quite a few local members to you.
One last thing. Pull up a comfortable chair and crack open a cold one. There's plenty of knowledge stashed away in the Articles as well as the archives. The search function really does work at this site, but be warned....we're good at throwing a thread into the weeds and may at times cause you to spit back up your drink. Have a keyboard ****** installed if you are drinking and surfing here:D;Sweet

That's straight from the Carfax I pulled on it, it could be wrong. It's been dumping like mad - in fact it was as I drove it 15 miles to get home yesterday. So I haven't had a chance to get out and really give it a once over.

Engine is strong and recently rebuilt, the tranny was rebuilt a year ago as well. I **DID** however notice a coffee can on the driver's side under the hood doing something :) this should be interesting.

Taking it to Ford on Monday to have them give it a once over for a few bucks. I know it needs a block heater cable, a u joint and a radiator for starters and valve cover gaskets - there's a leak at the oil filter housing too.

Just want to get this thing to the point where it's mechanically sound and then start bringing it all back to stock. Once the mechanicals are done I'll do the miscellaneous body work that it needs.

DAYUM, you found a 6.9 with Fuel Injection and OverHead Valves;Really .....I thought all those vintage engines were carburated L-heads. :dunno :D

:point Don't forget the "keyboard ******" next time you read.:rotflmao :rotflmao Welcome:Thumbs Up

The oil leak at the front oil filter housing has me interested... Might it be the oil cooler header or the o-rings. Just maybe its the valve cover gaskets leaking down on the oil coover bundle making it look like that where the leak is. Be warned about the stealership. They do take plenty of money out of your wallet making it easier to walk away from there because your lighter in the wallet. Some of us have been there too.:D

I know that the stealership is an issue. The items that require work were noted by the previous owner who almost didn't sell me the truck he was so attached to it! He had his indy mechanic look it over a few weeks ago and that list was what he came up with.

I want a list of things that are knits - you know - so that you catch everything that is potentially wrong with the truck. Then I can go down the list and prioritize things for repair.

For example, I know I can get a brand new radiator (which I'll need) for about $275.00 bucks - if the stealership says it's $325.00 I'll ask if I can supply the parts - they'll say their 90 day warranty on the part won't apply. I'll say 90 days on it isn't worth the $50.00 they'll install it for the $65.00/hr shop rate.

I need to find a Ford obsessed independent mechanic that's local to me. Never know maybe one of the Ford diesel techs at the dealership will do shade tree work.

Believe it or not the coffee can is supposed to be there. It's a vacuum reservoir.

Welcome:D
