I recently replaced my injection pump on my 7.3 idi the new pump made the truck run worse so I put back in the old one and now it's producing a lot of white smoke. I didn't tamper with anything I've already replaced the injection pump multiple times never revoked the timing gear cover please help.

Injection pumps and injectors wear out in a set, when was the last time the injectors were replaced?

When was the last time the injectors were pressure and leak tested? If they are out of specs they can cause several issues.

I do not know when the injectors were tested. The issue only started when I changed the pump.

First did you time the pump? Second yes a new pump that puts out more pressure will show your injectors for what they are good or bad.

The first time the factory pump died so I replaced it with one from AutoZone. the one from AutoZone was bad the truck wouldn't start. I swapped in a new one from AutoZone it lasted 7000 miles before it started surging. I replaced it again then the surging went away. the new one felt like it had a lack of power. so I picked up a pump from pensacola diesel. when that one went in it had a very choppy idle so I put back in the other one now its blowing white smoke.

I never removed the timing cover and lined up the notch with the dowel pin.

I would suggest getting a set of injectors and a pump from a reputable shop. I had a napa pump once, and it only lasted 6000 miles before I ran into hot start problems. It's not the cheapest option, but you're garunteed to get a good set.

Base timing is set just to get the truck running. It needs to be timed properly. Also sounds like you have more going on. Injectors? Maybe…. Lift pump? What is your psi after the lift pump and filter?

Any recommendations for a good company for pump/injectors. how do I test fuel psi?
