I mentioned in a few threads my ZD1 Glow plugs have been in the 86 f250
for the past 5 years on a Toggle switch, and this is the 6th winter for them.
So far no problems with them.
Well a few times in the past month noticed in the mornings not such a healthy
start. Nights not all that cold during Aug/Sept. But did need to hit the toggle
again a few sec again to get her to start. So knew it was coming.

Then this morning (and we got down into the 20`s, got some snow on the higher mountains couple days ago)
So this morning gave her 10 sec, and she did kick over, but was stumbling pretty
bad, as not all cyl were firing, gave her another hit and she smoothed down.

Had been thinking of going into Rock Auto and just order a set, so this hard start gave me the nudge.
RA showed a wholesale close out on ZD1 for $5.84 ea...WOW!!!! get 16 for that
price. OH OH, only 4 left. So grabbed them and ordered 8 of the ZD28 which I guess
is the new part #.....so
$23.36 ZD1
$116.08 ZD28
$27.98 ship
$9.90 Tax
$177.32 total

Dang that is a lot for shipping. Just looked at my E-mails and should get them next
Wed/Thurs....Cool. But it is coming in 2 shipments, so I guess that is why the high
shipping? I feel like I s c r e w ed my self. So much for the cheap GP`s...LOL

I ordered a bunch of small parts from RA which totaled up to some $35. They came from five places, and cost more than $125 in shipping, which I wasn't paying attention to... I wrote a complaint to them to either fix that or at least make it more obvious. Only rarely did I ever use them again. Its been +10 years since this happnened = so I should revisit RA.

One thing I did subsequently get at RA - were GPs. eBay and Amazon too. All of them had counterfits. I know others have reliably found GPs at RA... I've read enough of your posts to know you'll give them all a good look, just have some caution no matter where you go. Most of the fake GP's I found - lacked the hole punch in the bag.

Yeah RockAuto has some wonky shipping. If you can get parts that all ship from one warehouse then it often seems like a better deal but if multiple warehouses are involved then RA can go pound sand. I find Summit or JEGS to be better overall in terms of prices, wait time, and consistent free or inexpensive shipping.

I probably use them again.
In another thread running right now on the ZF-5 spd. I posted
a Google search on the Clutch/Brake Peddle Bushings.
and a e-bay listing for them @ $19.00 and free shipping.
The listing person is also a on line store vendor with the Bushing
at the same price plus shipping. How does that work?

I`ve had it with HF Drill Bits, seem almost dull out of the Drill Index. They were on sale for $19, so bought 3 of them.
Was using a 1/4" Bit the other day and dang thing wouldn`t
punch a hole through 1/8" flat bar.

There is a site "Drill Bit Wearhouse" that sells high quality Bits.
So ordered a dozen of the 1/4", dang shipping was $15. That is
from southern Ca. to up here near Carson City, Nv.
But with the higher fuel prices, it`s going to cost more I guess.

It's on you for not even looking at the page. It shows you shipping costs in the cart before you go to checkout, if you have an address entered. Plus they make it obvious, it shows A, B, C for the warehouse on the itemized cart. They have links to information about combining shipping too when you click on the little truck with the letter.

Yup - it was on me then, and I said as much. Also noted its been 15 years and I should have another go at it. The pages didn’t look like this 15 years ago - then it was not at all obvious your things were coming from different places, you had to look hard to figure it out - and as I said - its still on me. If you are getting what you need there - fantastic! I didn’t.

The real point of the post was - everyone who sells the ZD1A GPs - has fakes. You have to inspect them and bench test them. What I didn’t say - is that RA refused the returns or to acknowledge they have counterfeits in their inventory. They refused my returns b/c I wanted them to commit to not returning them to their inventory to sell to someone else. So I ate the cost of the plugs so someone else didn’t…

The price RA pays for that - is that I tell this story every time I can.

Hm. Well maybe they took your advice? My first order with RockAuto was 8/1/2011 and the site has always looked that way since I first ordered 13 years ago. I've spent over $2k there over the years. Last order was $270 (with tax & shipping) last winter for shocks, radiator hoses, belts etc. Only paid $25 shipping for everything. I saved waaaay more than $25 on the parts vs Amazon or retail prices, so I still saved.

I was going to answer this last month when this thread was running. then it slips to page 2 etc...

The ZD-1 and ZD-28 bags, all had the hole punched in them.
Not a complete hole punched out, but can see the imprint and
a circle with small holes in the imprint.

Don`t remember if the MC ZD-1 plugs I got 5 or 6 years ago
had the hole punched completely out.

Also Iam pretty sure RA doesn`t own wear houses all across the country. Probably a couple guys in some office suit they rent, have a program on their computers to click on wear houses in various places around the country they subscribe to. Then they see what
inventory is available by what part #`s we punch in.

when I first heard of this new part number change and counterfeit stuff. I ordered an set of ZD9s from an online ford dealer, made sure they all said made in Germany and set them on my shelf for safe keeping lol

I just went and checked, and they all do have a perforated hole punch in them on both sides never noticed that

Thinking of ordering a set of these ZD-28 plugs from RA. I still see 4 ZD-1 plugs for half-price. Think I could order 4 of ZD-1 and 4 ZD-28? Is it just a product code difference?

Up in Canada here RA has saved me thousands of dollars on my van and VW. Even with the shipping. If I manage to get everything from the same wear-house it's usually only $20-30 UPS.

When I was buying my van knowing nothing about IDI's I took the van with the seller to a Ford Truck Mechanic in town (across from the dealer) He quoted me $6000 CAD to get it safetied and on the road. Was great to negotiation the price down. Took his part list for the van, ordered it all from RA. Saved $2000 in parts alone, and took it to my mechanic for a much better repair rate.

The only consistency damaged thing from RockAuto for me is the Hayden 779 transmission cooler. The one I bought in mid 2022 had a slightly bent mounting bracket, and the one I just bought has a smash bracket corner. The box isn't crushed at all, so I dunno what that's about. It probably won't leak and I don't see any cracks, so I'll run it. It's just very strange.

Cubey that made me laugh, When FEDEX dropped off my Radiator from Summit Racing, The box looked like they dragged it behind their truck to get it here. No damage to the Radiator.

Still wondering, are they the same glow plug? I can run both at the same time? Thanks!
I was wondering the same thing. Why the # change.
Maybe they heat differently? IDK.
Can`t assume. Don`t want to make an A S S outof U and Me...LOL

EDIT: evidently A Z Z is another dirty word.

That's a fantastic story. You hear these stories so rarely these days.

Just say "donkey" like I do. That's not a dirty word (yet).
