Hey all,

I am installing a pair of pyrometers in my 94 superduty (I salvaged two banks dynafact guages from junked trucks for super cheap). I dont really like the pillar gauge pod setup, they seem to be cheap and dont mount nicely whenever ive installed them.

Who has seen or done it differently? I have seen ceiling mounted pods up above the rear view mirror (I dont have a rear view mirror in my truck) or down where that random slot thing is under the dash. Show me some examples!

I just started playing with ABS sheet goods in hopes of fab'ing my own "over-head" gauge cluster and switch mount.

Per YouTube videos it's not a complicated process. We'll see.

I'll let you know how it goes.

So far, I'm about $50 in to it and I've got (I think) all of the materials ... now template making is on the schedule.

Neato. I have access to a makerbot replicator at work, a crazy number of printers at my school (they can print a chevy LS block and heads in one shot), tons of sheet metal fabrication capability and materials, and a full wood shoppe. I havent decided what I want to make it out of yet.

I really like the layout of the old centurion trucks with their overhead panels so I was thinking about going that route, especially since my truck has no rear view mirror. Only concern I have for that is having to run the wires all the way up there, seems like alot more work.

Alternatively thinking about making an underdash pod to mount down low and maybe have a mount for a trailer controller and some other stuff. Theres alot of dead space on the dash that I could replace.

Oh man ... I'd be "like a ***** in a drug store" ... endless possibilities with the correct tools and materials...

One of my parts trucks had the "shelf / gun rack" mounted overhead. I requisitioned that shelf as my "foundation"

That's the biggest thing I dislike about the censoring. I immediately try to figure out what it's supposed to say and I'm usually wrong!

It was an $8 project box off of Amazon. I like it down low, because it’s out of my field of vision at night, but in the bright sun they can sometimes get obscured by glare. I’m pretty sure that will get fixed when I get around to tinting the windows.

I was thinking of replacing either of these things with a gauge holder. I would also like to get a cup holder installed but that will be another project for another day. I'm going to start with the right coin tray thing or whatever that thing is supposed to be, mine doesnt even match my truck so I wont feel bad about tossing it.

I'm going to start with the right
I'd like to repurpose that area too.

After the gauge / switch mounts, I'll to install my trailer brake controller in area (that you outlined) on the left.

I thought about trying to make something work in the ash tray (area to the right) but it seemed like I was going to have to cut into the structure of things to get enough depth, and ultimately I liked it well enough on the floor, and it was easy. I ended up installing my brake controller in the cubby to the left. It keeps it close at hand, but away from my knee. Here’s how things look today.

My truck is an XLT and came with buckets and a center console, so I have cup holders there.

I intend to modify the whole "cubby". I will have trailer brake controller and a couple of switches. 1 switch for trailer Aux power and one that runs my rear strobe light circuit.
