Inputs like the brake pedal switch and clutch pedal switch automatically cancel the activation for the cruise control, so it just goes to idle when you clutch in to change gears.
Not always. I had a 1995 ****** with a 5 speed and cruise. If you shifted with the cruise set, The engine would rev pretty high. I never tried to see how high it would go since it was the brand only new vehicle that I'll ever own. The real trick (and it's not much of one) with a manual trans and cruise is to set the cruise when you're already at, or near to, highway speed and done shifting. It's called "cruise" for a reason.;)

I've only owned two vehicles in my life that actually had working cruise control, that ****** and my much missed 1980 Datsun 280ZX. They both had manual transmissions too.

Apparently, the system had a malfunction. On manual vehicles, there is or should be a switch that deactivates the cruise control when the clutch pedal is pressed.

My 88 gasser didn't. If I pushed in the clutch it would run away trying to keep the speed up. No malfunction, just no input from the clutch. Found out when I accidentally pulled it out of 5th, hit the clutch and it still tried running 55.....

Then my guess is that the clutch switch was broken or missing. I've been working on cars for a long time and never saw one with no clutch switch. If there was no switch it's a lawsuit waiting to happen.

Lots of people bypass the clutch switch so they can start the engine without getting in, more than likely that’s why y’all are having that happen. Controller thinks the clutch is engaged all the time.

Well I can honestly say that it came off the lot with 34 miles on it that way. I'm not saying that something wasn't wrong, that's just how it worked from brand new. I put 30 miles on the thing myself during my test drive.

It was still there and working. Couldn't start it without the clutch in. Maybe the interlock came out later? :dunno

Soooo wanted to do that, but always parked on a slope and never had a working parking brake..:frustrate

I always bypass the clutch switch on my trucks. My cruise works just fine. I just tell my right foot how fast to go!:joker: I've really only had two vehicles in my life that had properly working cruise control. That ****** and the 1980 Datsun 280ZX that I still wish I had.
